Thought for the Day ~ 13 December, 2024 A.D.

" The [-false] god of the religionist is measured by his own depraved standard . Depraved man reprehends what he does not comprehend. He finds fault with election, predestination, and other great truths related to God's sovereignty. In this manner, he stains the excellency of the sovereign God with his thoughts and speech." -copied

Woe to those who strive against Almighty God!

" Nay, but, O man, who art thou that repliest against GOD?" - Romans 9:20 [KJV] The sovereignty of God, in dispensing His grace to whom He pleaseth, and which He oweth to none, ever has been a subject of contention. Unawakened people, with self-righteous hearts, and stubborn 'free-will' pride, rise with indignation of spirit, daringly call in question the ways of God to man, and impiously reply against God, as though He had not an absolute right to do what He will with His own, and confer His favours when, and on whom He pleases.  “Ye shall be as gods,” says the father of lies, (Genesis 3:5.) Our first parents believed him. They have tainted our whole race with this proud lie. Hence the poet most sarcastically says, to repliers against God, Snatch from His hand the balance and the rod, Rejudge His justice, be the god of God . St. Paul meets such. He puts a question to them. He demands an answer from them. Who art thou? The Lord in the sovereignty of g...

Christ JESUS ~ The Author of Eternal Salvation

"And being made perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him." - Hebrews 5:9 [KJV] By His sufferings in the garden and upon the cross the Lord Jesus was made perfect. But what perfection was this? It clearly does not mean that by these sufferings in the garden and upon the cross our Lord was made perfect as the Son of God, nor perfect as the Son of man, for He was perfect before as possessing infinite perfection in His eternal Godhead, and was endued also with every possible perfection of which His sacred humanity was capable. He needed no perfection to be added to His Godhead; it was not susceptible of it; no perfection to be added to His manhood, for it was "a holy thing" in union with eternal Deity.  But He needed to be made perfect as a High Priest. It was through His sufferings that He was consecrated or dedicated in an especial manner to the priesthood, for this corresponds with His own words: "And for their ...

Behold, Christ Comes Quickly

"And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him ." -Matthew 25:6 [KJV] When Jesus, the Bridegroom of His church, first came, it was in a moment sudden and unexpected, like the surprise at a midnight hour. And when Jesus cometh to any of His people, it is unlooked for. Indeed, it is always midnight in the soul of a sinner, when the cry is made! But how blessed is the cry, when a poor lost perishing sinner is advanced to the midnight of death, on the verge of an approaching eternity, and in that season hears the voice of the Son of God, and lives! How many, like the thief on the cross, or like the jailor at Philippi, have been surprised into grace at such seasons, by the sovereignty of Him, "Who calleth things that are not, as though they were?"   Precious Jesus! in all the circumstances of life, in the midnight of nature, the midnight of carnal security, the midnight of sleep, in which even Thy dear children ar...

Thought for the Day: 12 December, 2024 A.D.

God's purpose is one, because He is of one mind: as it is written,   "But He is in one mind, and who can turn Him? and what His soul desireth, even that He doeth" (Job 23:13, KJV).  There can no more be a new thought or a new purpose in God than there can be a new God. Whatever God thinks He ever thought, always does think, and will continue thinking. Therefore, whatever God purposes He always purposed, ever purposes, and will continue purposing.  Thinking and purposing are attributes of rational beings whether created or uncreated. The thoughts and purposes of the infinite God are co-eternal with Himself. God's thoughts and purposes are absolute. If this were not true, no being could possibly exist. The fulfillment of God's purpose manifests the beauty of all His perfections.  - W. E. Best , excerpt from 'God's Sovereignty is Absolute Arbitrariness'

An Everlasting Salvation in Christ JESUS

" Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee ." -Isaiah 49:15 [KJV] Lord, remember David and all his afflictions, (Psalm 132:1.) How comprehensive is this short petition? What a holy boldness, what a filial confidence breathes in it! Yes, says a poor doubting dejected soul, but it came from an eminent saint, but I am a miserable sinner: I am afraid the Lord hath forgotten and forsaken me. Is your mind pained at the thoughts of this? That is a godly sorrow, which the wicked are strangers to. This is one of the afflictions of the righteous. Lord, remember me , is the prayer of faith, to a covenant God. Here is a precious cordial, a heart reviving answer from the Lord.  Look at that woman with her smiling babe at her breast. See how fond she is of it, how delighted with it. It is part of herself. She bore it with pains, and brought it into the world with labou...

The Interceding Breath of the Holy Spirit in our hearts

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." - Romans 8:26 [KJV] In all our prayers, in all our approaches to the Throne, our mercy and wisdom will be to seek to possess the mind of the Spirit; to desire to know the will of God, and do it; to look up more believingly and continually to the Lord Jesus, that He Himself would teach and guide us; that He would by His Spirit and grace conform us more inwardly and outwardly to His suffering image; that He would grant unto us to know Him more, and serve Him better; that our prayers may day by day be more and more fervent, earnest, and sincere, more spiritual, more in accordance with the will of God; that thus they may be more and more manifested as the interceding breath of the Spirit of God in our hearts, and as such may bring more clear and evident answers down. Pray fo...
