God has made Christ all these to H is people. He has set H im up as their eternal Head, made H im the Bridegroom of their souls, that out of H is fulness they may all receive. Then, just in proportion as they learn these two lessons—what they are, and what H e is—they receive H im into their hearts actually what H e is to them in the purpose of God. Am I a fool? Do I feel it and know it? Have I had painful experience of it, so that all my creature wisdom is turned into one mass of foolishness? The hymn states, “There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins.” What exactly is this blessed and glorious fountain? It is the fountain of God’s free and sovereign grace in the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is Himself “Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, G OD WITH US ” (M ATTHEW 1:23) . As God manifest in the flesh, the Lord Jesus Christ shed His own precious blood unto death to pay the sin-debt of all His people. God’s Word tells us that “where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (R OMANS 5:20) . Grace can only “abound” (increase) based on a just ground, and that just ground is the merit of Christ’s blood which is His righteousness imputed to His people . The merit of Christ insures that no sin can be imputed to God’s people for whom Christ died and arose from the dead. The merit of Christ insures that God justifies them and gives them eternal life. This fountain of blood is truly a fountain of life for all whom God brings to faith in Christ and

How distinguished from every other! Lord, how often do I now awake with thoughts of earth, and sin, and trifles, and vanity. How have I opened mine eyes this morning? Was it, dearest Jesus, with thoughts of Thee? In that solemn morning there will be no longer dreams, as now, even in our waking hours, for all childish imaginations, shadows, doubts, and fears, will be done away. Precious, blessed Lord Jesus!
