"Salvation is of the LORD." -Jonah 2:9

“ For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”  -Romans 14:17 [KJV]   What is, “ the kingdom of God?” It is saying the same thing as salvation is of the Lord, “ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God ” (John 3:5). The word, “ kingdom” is the same as, “ reign ” in Romans 5:21. Paul is declaring the same message here as in Romans chapter 8 and 9. Salvation is not of creature merit, “ meat and drink ” or doing (I Corinthians 8:8) , but rather of God’s sovereign grace, “ So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy ” (Romans 9:16) .      It is good for us to know what salvation is not; not of works (II Timothy 1:9) , not of freewill (John 1:12-13), not of man’s righteousness (Titus 3:5) . “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” -Romans 15:13 [KJV]   These words of inspiration encourage my weary heart. The gospel of God in Christ is so designed to give God all the glory for the salvation of sinners (I Corinthians 1:30-31) . But thank God, it is also designed to give to broken, sinful and weary sinners joy and peace through the gospel (Romans 5:1) . Notice this also, it is “ joy and peace in believing , ” not working, not ceremony and the traditions of men, but by simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that we may abound in hope (Hebrews 11:6) .    The Lord Jesus Christ is the whole believer’s hope before God and men (see Colossians 1:27; 2:9-10; 3:11). Able To Save   " Able to save " means something more than just de­livering men from hell. " Able to save " is the whole work of salvation from the first conviction of sin, to complete glorification.
