Just How Many Redeemers Are There? by D.G. Miles McKee   It is a stunning fact to grasp that it was God Himself who undertook and accomplished our redemption.  Has that truth yet warmed our hearts?  William Romaine, that most excellent and wise 18 th  century Bible scholar said; “There was no Saviour but Jehovah: therefore, Jehovah and Jesus are one. We read in Isaiah 49:26, “All flesh shall know that  I Jehovah am thy   Savior and thy Redeemer , the mighty one of Jacob.” Also, the prophet Jeremiah says, “Their Redeemer is strong, Jehovah of hosts is His name” (Jeremiah 50:34); the name Jehovah belongs to the Redeemer; it is His incommunicable title.” -William Romaine: The Self-Existence of Jesus Christ.   Jesus saves His people by redeeming them. Some like to argue, however, that although Christ is a savior there are, after all, various types of saviors  (see II Kings 13:5, Obadiah 1:21, Nehemiah 9:27).  Good point!  ...

Most Blessed Enthusiam

" Because Thy loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee." —Psalm 63:3 [KJV] Forsake all, and possess all. Give up all, and enjoy all. This is the doctrine of Jesus, and the experience of faith. So we overcome the world, by preferring the love of Christ to every thing beside. Most blessed enthusiasm! really tasting that the Lord is gracious—truly feeling the comforts of His love— actually partaking of fellowship with Jesus—communion of the Holy Spirit—freely conversing with the Father of all consolations— O how transporting to the Spirit! how ravishing to the soul! With what holy indifference does the enraptured heart look down upon the objects of sense! The gilded toys of time, that so attract the views—the glittering vanities of life, that so enslave earthly minds—the empty shadows of sense, that so bewitch the heart; yea, life itself, with all its comforts, what are all, compared to one moment's enjoyment of the loving-kindness of the ...

O for Continual Manifestations of Thy Glory, LORD JESUS!

"Thou hast kept the good wine until now." -John 2:10 [KJV] The good wine of the Gospel must be Jesus Himself, for He, and He alone, trod the wine-press of His Father's wrath, when the Lord bruised Him and put Him to grief (Isaiah 53:5) . This is the wine which, in scripture, is said to cheer both God and men; for when God's justice took the full draught of it for the sins of the redeemed, the Lord declared Himself well pleased. And when the poor sinner, by sovereign grace, is first made to drink of the blood of the Lamb, he feels constrained to say, The Lord had kept the good wine until now; for never before had his soul been so satisfied. Oh, precious Jesus' how sweet is the thought! Thy first miracle converted water into wine. Moses' ministry, under Thy commission, was first manifested in turning water into blood. Yes, dear Lord! when once Thy grace hath wrought upon the heart of a sinner, Thou makest his most common mercies, like water, to be...

The Spirit of Truth, Whom the World Cannot Receive

"And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; Whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." -John 14:16, 17 [KJV] The holy Comforter and most gracious Spirit does not take up a temporary abode in the heart of the Lord’s people. Where He once takes up His dwelling, there He for ever dwells and lives. "He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever. " Oh, the blessing! Where once that holy Dove has lighted, there that Dove abides. He does not visit the soul with His grace, and then leave it to perish under the wrath of God, or allow His work to wither, droop, and die.  But where He has once come into the soul with power, there He fixes His continual habitation, for He makes the bodies of the saints His temple. He consecrates them to the service of ...
