Seven-fold Name of JEHOVAH ~ Greatly Rejoice

  1. JEHOVAH-JIREH ; the LORD will provide (Genesis 22:14) . This is a good description of our Lord's character. He has provided for His people everything necessary in our salvation (I Corinthians 1:31; Ephesians 1:3) . In Christ Jesus there is nothing lacking. 2. JEHOVAH-RAPHA ; the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26) . How suitable is this name to describe the Lord Jesus Christ in taking our sins to Himself and making atonement for them. Isaiah said, "With His stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5) . 3. JEHOVAH-NISSI ; the LORD our banner (Exodus 17:15) . The Lord's banner over His people is love (Song of Solomon 2:4) , eternal unchanging, sovereign love. Where is that love revealed? Only in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:39; I John 4:10) .  4. JEHOVAH-SHALOM ; the LORD our peace (Judges 6:24) . Our Lord made perfect, eternal peace with God through His precious blood (Colossians 1:20; I Peter 1:18) . No judgment in Him. 5. JEHOVAH-RAHA ; the LORD my Shepherd ...

Simply Preach JESUS Christ the LORD

SIMPLY PREACH HIM   The message of the Gospel is a very narrow message that encompasses the breadth or the span of God Himself. It is narrow in the sense that Christ is its only object. There is nothing that I can preach from the Scriptures that will not find its beginning and end all redounding to the glory and honour of Christ.  Any message that focuses on anything but Him misses the Gospel.   -preacher Marvin Stalnaker

THE WORD WAS GOD!

“In the beginning was the Word,  and the Word was with God,  and the Word was God.”   -John 1:1 [KJV]     It is impossible for anyone to read those words with honesty and misunderstand them. John here asserts that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Word, was, is, and ever shall be in nature, essence, and substance very God of very God, and that as the Father is God, so also the Son is God. Our Savior’s divinity could not be more positively stated. Christ the Word is not inferior to God the Father. The eternal and unchangeable Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is all One (see notation below) .   “And the Word was God.” He was not made God, as He is made flesh. He was not constituted or appointed God, or declared God by office and title. “The Word was God , ” truly and properly God, in the highest sense of the word. Jesus Christ, our Savior, the Word, is Jehovah , our God, God with us, the mighty God, God over all, the gr...

The Doctrine of Need

"Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;  there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.  For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." -Psalm 91:9-13 [KJV]                                               *******0*******                                               THE DOCTRINE OF NEED   The doctrines of grace, or the five points of grace, or even more accurately the doctrine of grace or the doctrine of Christ:    (1) As a result of Adam’s fall all men are totally depraved.    (2) God, by His grace, elected a vast...

The Language of True Repentance

"God be merciful to me, a sinner."   - Luke 18:13 [KJV] I often reflect on what a perfectionist once said to me, upwards of twenty years ago: “Do not go to hear such preaching; you will get such a notion of sinnership, as though you were to be a poor sinner all your days.” Truly, after being so long in Christ, when I look into the glass of God’s law, I see myself just the same poor sinner I was at first; striving against sin, and looking to Christ for salvation. I thank my Lord, I do not trust in myself that I am righteous: yet am as righteous in myself, as any poor sinner on earth is; and as righteous in Christ, as any saint in glory is. O the humbling joy of faith! it brings boldness of access to God into the heart, while it destroys self-righteous confidence.    Many poor souls are apt to say, I am afraid to approach God, I am such a sinner—I tremble to think what will become of me—I fear God will cast me off for ever; and damn me eternally, for my sins....

A Blueprint of Christ JESUS, The LORD our Righteousness...

"So Moses the servant of the LORD died." -Deuteronomy 34:5 [KJV] My soul! close the month, in contemplating the death of this highly-favoured servant of the Lord: and mark in him the sure event of all flesh: "Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." What a blessed account hath the Holy Ghost give of this man. "There arose not a prophet (we are told) like unto Moses, whom Jehovah knew face to face."   But, as if to draw an everlasting line of distinction between him and his Master; between the highest prophet, and the Lord God of the prophets; the Holy Ghost was pleased, by the ministry of His servant the apostle, to state the vast distinction: "Moses verily was faithful (saith he) in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after: but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house are we ; " Hebrews 3:5, 6. Indeed all the great and distinguishing events in the life of Moses...

To God Alone Be All The Glory

"That I may glory with Thine inheritance." -Psalm 106:5 [KJV]   The Church is Christ's inheritance. He purchased it by His own blood. He went into captivity for it, and He redeemed it by pouring out His precious blood for it. Now this inheritance glories: "That I may glory with Thine inheritance." And in whom does it glory? It glories in its covenant Head. It does not glory in itself—in its pious self, righteous self, strong self, religious self; "let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches, but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me." "He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."     The glory of the Church is to glory in her covenant Head—to glory in Christ and in Christ alone; to glory in His strength, love, blood, grace, and righteousness; and to glory in it, herself being covered with shame. None can gl...

GOD's GREATEST GLORY

MY ONLY HOPE AND PLEA No work of mine could save my soul, Or make my sinful spirit whole; To Thee O Christ, I lift my cry, Lord save this sinner or I die.   Chorus:   Who but the Lord could meet my need, And for the guilty intercede? This is my only hope and plea, Christ took my place on Calvary.   O Spirit quicken now my heart, And life divine to me impart; ‘Tis by Thy call, to Christ I look, Who all my sins and sorrows took.    Chorus   The Spirit has to me made known, That none can save, but Christ alone; His blood can make the foulest clean, On Christ the Savior I will lean.      Chorus   Unto the Savior I will flee, To save me for eternity; Now with my soul I know ‘tis well, And soon I shall with Jesus dwell.   Chorus   The glory, Lord, belongs to Thee, For by Thy death on Calvary, My soul is saved and justified, And soon I shall be glorified.     Chorus       TUNE:  “Complete in Thee” L...

Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 30 May, 2026 A.D.

"...and confessed they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth."   - Hebrews 11:13 [KJV]   O, ye worldly-minded professors, can ye read this without being ashamed and reproved? What will bring a man to this confession? Will sickness, and a near approach to death? O! no. Men return from the most dangerous illness, to greater love of the world, and more ardent pursuit after the things of it. Look at a dying worldling. See him, like a drowning man, clinching the faster what he has grasped for his hope and help. Men not only live fools, but die fools too. Their senses beguile them: their reason befools them: they reject the plainest truths before them. Nothing will kill the love of a bewitching world in a deceitful heart, but the view of heaven by faith. No man will confess himself a stranger to the world, and a pilgrim on the earth, until he sees himself “a fellow-citizen with the saints, and of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19.) As we say, we will not quit a...

Not Unto Death but for God's Divine Glory

"Therefore His sisters sent unto Him, saying, Lord! behold, he whom Thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, He said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby ." -John 11:3, 4 [KJV]   My soul! ponder these words. It may be said now, as it was then, Lord, behold he whom Thou lovest, yea, many our Lord Jesus loveth, are at this present hour sick! Who shall calculate the number? Who shall mark down the tears of the sorrowful of the Lord's people? But Jesus knows them all; yea, appoints all; and He it is, of whom it is said, "He putteth their tears into His bottle: are not these things noted in Thy book?" These words suggest another sweet thought. The sorrowful sisters, in their message to the Lord Jesus, did not tell Him that one whom they loved was sick, but one whom Jesus loved . There could be no doubt of their love to their brother: but their application to Jesus was on accoun...

REJOICE: The Work is Finished, The Warfare Accomplished!

"That I may rejoice in the gladness of Thy nation." -Psalm 106:5 [KJV] What is "the gladness of God's nation?" To be saved "without money and without price;" to be saved by grace—free, rich, sovereign, distinguishing grace, without one atom of works, without one grain of creature merit, without anything of the flesh. This is "the gladness of God's nation ; " to rejoice in free grace, grace super-abounding over the aboundings of sin, grace reigning triumphant over the dreadful evils of our heart. It is grace that "gladdens" a man's heart.    Oh! sweet grace, blessed grace! when it meets our case and reaches our souls. Oh! what a help, what a strength, what a rest for a poor toiling, striving, labouring soul, to find that grace has done all the work, to feel that grace has triumphed in the cross of Christ, to find that nothing is required, nothing is wanted, nothing is to be done. It is a full and perfect, com...
