He That Searcheth the Hearts...

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." -R OMANS 8:26 [KJV] "We know not what we should pray for as we ought." How often do we find and feel this to be our case. Darkness covers our mind; ignorance pervades our soul; unbelief vexes our spirit; guilt troubles our conscience; a crowd of evil imaginations, or foolish or worse than foolish wanderings distract our thoughts; Satan hurls in thick and fast his fiery darts; a dense cloud is spread over the mercy-seat; infidelity whispers its vile suggestions, till, amidst all this rabble rout, such confusion and bondage prevail that words seem idle breath, and prayer to the God of heaven but empty mockery. In this scene of confusion and distraction, when all seems going to the wreck, how kind, how gracious is it in the blessed Spirit to come, as it were, to th

Think of these things...

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,THINK ON THESE THINGS ." -P HILIPPIANS 4:8 [KJV] Finally brethren, last but not least, give yourselves to meditate on these things of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul says in another scripture, "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all" ( I TIMOTHY 4:15) . Take note of these eight words that describe the gospel. 1). The gospel of Christ is unquestionably true . In the word of the gospel we have the truth declared about sin (R OMANS 3:9-23) ; the truth declared about salvation ( II TIMOTHY 1:9; A CTS 4:12) ; the truth declared about God's Christ (R OMANS 3:4; I SAIAH 45:21-22) . Our Lord said it is the truth that sets sinners free (J

Our Lord Jesus' Throne of Grace

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." -H EBREWS 4:16 [KJV] We are bidden to come, not to a throne of law, nor a throne of strict justice, but to a throne of grace. The words, Throne, Majesty, Power, and Omnipotence all leave me awed and frightened. But the soft gentle word Grace stirs my heart to venture near in sincerity, humility, and hope. For though there are a thousand defects in my prayers, it is a throne of grace. Though many defects in my knowledge, it is a throne of grace. Though there are so many weaknesses in my spirit, it is a throne of grace. Though my faith is so weak and dishonoring to the King, it is a throne of grace. Grace loves, grace forgives, grace abounds, grace is sufficient; and H is grace is greater than all my sins. - Gospel report by preacher Henry Mahan
