Divine Sovereignty Illustrated

“Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?”   -Romans 9:21 [KJV]    What a simple but powerful declaration of the absolute sovereignty of God!  The Lord does what He will with His own.  He is the Potter and we are the clay.  A little boy takes in his hands a ball of play-dough.  What power does that small mass have over the child?  That young fella can do whatever he is pleased to do with that lifeless, moldable clay.  Even so, the whole lump of mankind is in the hands of the Lord and He makes one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor according to the good pleasure of His will.   -preacher Jim Byrd

BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!

Thy providence O gracious Lord, Has brought us to this place; May Thy great name now be adored, Thou Author of free grace. ‘Tis not to honor flesh that we Now join our hearts as one; But we desire to worship Thee, And pray, “Thy will be done.”   Our Father praise be unto Thee, For blessings numberless; For grace from old eternity, Which we in Christ possess. And Christ, Thy wonders we confess, Thou Lamb of Calvary; ‘Tis by Thy blood and righteousness, We are from sin set free.   Thou Holy Spirit, heav’nly Dove, We praise Thee for Thy grace; For by Thy pow’r and saving love, By faith we Christ embrace. O Sovereign God of earth and sky, May all the praise be Thine; Help us Thy name to magnify, This is our great design.      Tune: “There is a Fountain” CM/double Words by Jim Byrd -------O-------        “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.  Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and ha...

A Legal Standing?

O, Lamb of God, still keep me Near to Thy wounded side Tis only there in safety   And peace I can abide. What foes and snares surround me! What lusts and fears within! The grace that sought and found me Alone can keep me clean. ‘Tis only in Thee hiding I know my life secure Only in Thee abiding I steadfast shall endure. Thine arm the victory gaineth O’er every hurtful foe The love my heart sustaineth In all its care and woe.   Soon shall my eyes behold Thee With rapture, face to face The half hath not been told me Of all Thy power and grace. Thy beauty, Lord, and glory The wonders of Thy love Shall be the endless story Of all Thy saints above. -Gospel hymn, “The Church’s One Foundation”     -------0-------      “The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.”   -Proverbs 15:14 [KJV] -------0-------       A LEGAL STANDING?   I have often heard justification desc...

A Glorious Change ~ From Darkness Into Light

"...are changed."   -II Corinthians 3:18 [KJV]   What a blessed and glorious change has passed upon our souls! Lord help us to consider it this night to Thy glory, and our comfort, how, by whom, and why are we changed.    (1st.) How are we changed? From sinful into sinless creatures? No. Some speak of this change, as if it were a total change of our corrupt nature. Hence, many dear children of God, finding and feeling all the ruins of their fallen nature from day to day, are surely distressed, and conclude that no spiritual change has passed upon their souls. But this change is purely spiritual. It passeth upon the spirit of our minds. These were enmity against God. Now they love God, and delight in the law of God. Our souls, once dead in sin, are now alive to God. We are translated from darkness into light. We see with open face, in the glass of the gospel, the glory of Jesus, in all His offices and precious salvation. Hence our minds are changed into His image. W...

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH ALMIGHTY GOD

"And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? Thou shalt see now whether My word shall come to pass unto thee or not ." - Numbers 11:23 [KJV] Is it not an extraordinary thing in the history of Moses, that he, who had seen the miracles in Egypt, should stagger at God's promises to feed His people with a new supply in the wilderness? Had Moses forgotten the rock which gave water, or the daily supply of manna? But pause, my soul! look not at Moses; look at home. What wonders hath thy God wrought for thee! and yet what doubts, and fears, and questionings, are continually arising in thy mind. Is there a child of God on earth, more apt to reason with flesh and blood than thou art? And is there a child of God, that hath less reason so to do?    Dearest Lord! I blush to think how slender, at times, my faith is! When I read of the acts of those heroes in the gospel, who "through faith, subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, stopped the mouths of l...

The Multitude of God's Tender Mercies

"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions." - Psalm 51:1 [KJV] This psalm is very suitable to the wants and feelings of every sensible sinner, for it is not necessary to have committed David's sin to have a measure of David's repentance and confessions, and of David's desires, breathings, and supplications. "Have mercy upon me, O God," he says, "according to Thy lovingkindness." To ask God to have mercy upon us is one of the first cries that a convinced sinner puts up to God. It was so with the publican in the temple; and where it is sincere, God will certainly hear it "according to His lovingkindness," for He is full of love and kindness to poor, mourning sinners. How the psalmist also begs of the Lord to "blot out his transgressions according unto the multitude of His tender mercies." As our sins in thought, word, and de...
