The Wednesday Word ~ 22 January, 2025 A.D.

The Gospel and Faith, Part I by D.G. Miles McKee “ Therefore, being justified by faith we have peace with God....” -Romans 5:1 [KJV] Here´s a question, does God look for faith in a believer and then, upon seeing it, declares them not guilty? Well, if you were to believe what some Christians say about this matter you would answer,” Yes , absolutely yes !” But that answer is a grim error. The finished work of the gospel knows nothing of the sort!  Saving faith is not a quality within us. We are saved entirely by a work which was accomplished outside of and apart from us. Faith takes a hold of the perfect salvation which has already been accomplished on our behalf by the Lord Jesus . Faith acknowledges that all things necessary to make us accepted before God have already been accomplished in the substitutionary work of Christ Jesus. Faith takes hold of the good news that in our name and on our behalf, Jesus Christ lived, died and rose again. Faith sees that Jesus as our su...

In Nature's Despair, Grace Triumphs

" For His anger endureth but a moment: in His favor is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." —Psalm 30:5 [KJV] Verily here is a glorious assemblage of comforting truths like a reviving cordial of rich compounds to enliven drooping spirits. Too, too often do God's children judge of their Father's love, from corrupt ideas . Through the carnality of their natures, the depravity of their judgment, the weakness of their faith, the uncertainty of their frames and feelings, and the artful insinuations of Satan, their loving Father is considered as an implacable being, full of wrath and anger against them. But this is contrary to God's revelation of Himself in Christ Jesus as a God of love. So also is it injurious and hurtful to the souls of the faithful; for it damps their love, distresses their spirits, deadens the exercise of their graces, and hinders their increase in holiness; the essence of which is founded in the love o...

LORD JESUS CHRIST ~ A GREAT SAVIOUR!

"They shall cry unto the L ORD because of the oppressors, and He shall send them a Saviour, and A GREAT ONE, and He shall deliver them." -Isaiah 19:20 [KJV] Mark, my soul, the sweet encouragement contained in these words. Here is a cry, and it is the cry of the soul; for it is directed unto the Lord. There is (as Elihu tells us) a cry of nature under oppression; but as this is not to God, it is evident that it never came from God; for he tells us, that none of them saith, "Where is God my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night?" Job 35:10 . But when the Holy Ghost convinceth of sin, and puts a cry in the heart by reason of it, He convinceth also of the righteousness of Jesus. Hence the difference of those cries is as wide as the east is from the west. Mark, therefore, my soul, this distinguishing feature of grace, and see whether thy cries are praying cries, and not complaining ones. And now observe what follows. When poor sinners thus cry unto the L...

The LORD of Life and Glory

"For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." -Colossians 2:9 [KJV] The temple erected by Solomon in Jerusalem, and the tabernacle set up by Moses in the wilderness were but types of the true temple, the Lord of life and glory . The Lord Himself said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up," speaking of His own body. All the beauty and glory of the temple were, therefore, figurative; they typified and shadowed forth the glory of Immanuel, for "in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."   God the Son has taken to Himself a body, according to those words in the fortieth Psalm, as quoted by Paul (Hebrews 10:5) : "a body hast Thou prepared Me;" a holy body, a sinless, spotless body. According to those words: "Therefore that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God;" and not only a holy body, but united to it a holy, spotless soul. "He shall see...
