  "If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates, in thy land which the L ORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother; but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth."   -Deuteronomy 15:7, 8 [KJV] How is it possible, dearest Lord Jesus, that I can read this scripture, and call to mind Thy obedience for me, in fulfilling the whole law, without connecting with it all the blessedness of looking up to Thee under every circumstance, and in every case, for Thy favour and Thy love? When Jesus became circumcised for His people, He made Himself a debtor to the whole law. And is not this delightful precept of my evening meditation a part of it?   Surely, Lord, this precept speaks to Thee. Not that my glorious Surety needed a command to the love of any of His poor brethren; for, blessed Jesus, Thy love brought Thee down

  "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."   - Matthew 11:28 [KJV] When we rest, we find relief to our weary limbs. So spiritually. When the soul comes to Jesus, He gives it rest and relief from its burdens; as well as deliverance from anxiety, and cessation from the labour that distresses and distracts it. He promises to give this— "Come unto Me, and I" —who else can do it? None, either in heaven or earth— "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and  I  will give you rest." How? By communicating to the soul out of His infinite fulness, by sprinkling upon the conscience His atoning blood, by shedding abroad in the heart His dying love, and enabling the soul to believe on His name, and cling to His Person.
