CHRIST IS OUR LIFE

" When the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory, that fadeth not away." -I Peter 5:4 [KJV] St. Peter speaks with the utmost confidence of the appearing of Christ, and of His members being crowned in glory. Yes, he knew better than to make his Lord a liar. For if any one of them should perish in their sins, and by the force and fraud of Satan be dragged down to hell, then they would lose their crown of glory. But how then would the goodness of their Shepherd appear, if he suffered this? St. Peter never received, nor ever taught such absurd, unscriptural doctrine. He too well knew the unchangeable love of the chief Shepherd. He knew Christ could not be glorified, nor would His heavenly Father be satisfied, without each and every one, of His chosen, redeemed, justified, believing members, crowned in glory. He says, “I am the good Shepherd: I know My sheep, I give My life for My sheep , ” (John 10:11.) If but one of them was missing, He w...

God's Deliverance

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations." -II Peter 2:9 [KJV] Few will sincerely and spiritually go to the Lord, and cry from their hearts to be delivered from the power of a temptation, until it presses so weightily upon their conscience, and lies so heavy a burden upon their soul, that none but God can remove it. But when we really feel the burden of a temptation; when, though our flesh may love it, our spirit hates it; when, though there may be in our carnal mind a cleaving to it, our conscience bleeds under it, and we are brought spiritually to loathe it and to loathe ourselves for it; when we are enabled to go to the Lord in real sincerity of soul and honesty of heart, beseeching Him to deliver us from it, I believe, that the Lord will, sooner or later, either remove that temptation entirely in His providence or by His grace, or so weaken its power that it shall cease to be what it was before, drawing our feet into paths of darkness an...

Be Thou my God, and make me Thy servant for ever

"And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said unto him, Zaccheus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house ." -Luke 19:5 [KJV] Precious Jesus! what an instance is here of the freeness, fulness, and sovereignty of Thy grace! And was there "a needs be," O Lord, that Thou shouldest go to the place where this publican was? "a needs be" to look up and see him? "a needs be" to call him? and "a needs be" to abide at his house? Is this Thy manner, O Lord, in calling sinners? So then it was not Zaccheus seeking Jesus, but Jesus seeking Zaccheus . His curiosity, as he thought, led him thither; but it was the prevenient grace of Jesus in the poor man's heart, that first awakened that curiosity in him. And did Jesus seek Zaccheus, call Zaccheus, incline Zaccheus to receive Him, and bring salvation to his heart and house that blessed day? Oh! then for grace to see, and enjoy Jesus ...

The Wednesday Word ~ 20 November, 2024 A.D.

The Gospel According to Isaiah , Part III see Isaiah ch. 53 by D.G. Miles McKee As stated last time, the blood of Christ cleanses the worst sins we have ever committed.  There on the cross the Lord Jesus hung. At that place of execution, He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.  At the end of that ghastly ordeal a horrible spear was thrust into His lovely side … what a gruesome crime.  What an evil way to treat the Young Prince of Glory.  Speaking of the spear we observed that when it came back out of the Master’s side, it was covered in blood. Blood! It´s as if once more we are reminded that the blood of Christ covers all our sin. Dear believer, did you know that the worst sin you have ever committed is forgiven.  That´s why we encourage believers to preach the Gospel to themselves.  We should continually tell ourselves of the Finished Work . Then we read in verse 6, “All we like sheep have gone astray.”  “Wha...
