More Gospel Truth,  Part II by D G Miles McKee     Matthew 7:21-23, “ Not every one that says unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of My Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And in Thy name have cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, you that work iniquity.” So, can a believer ever lose his salvation? Many people take the above text in Matthew 7 to prove that yes indeed they can.  However, those verses prove nothing of the kind. Do you remember how Jesus speaks of His own in John 10:27-28?  He says; “ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish." Hebrews 2:11 says, “For both He (Christ Jesus) that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified (the chosen sinner) are all of one: for which cause He (the Lord Jesus) is not ashamed to call them brethren.” Growing up as an “only child” I always wished I had a “big brother.” Then, in His appointed time, God made known to me that Christ had been my Elder Brother all along. He is not one who simply shares my DNA. He took my nature without losing His divine glory. “The Word was made flesh.” (John 1:14) That alone sets Him apart. A big brother might protect you, but he cannot redeem you. Christ didn’t just stand beside the sinner; He stood in their place. "God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ."   -I Thessalonians 5:9 [KJV]   Here is a precious negative, a glorious positive, and happy souls. Lord help us to meditate upon them, to our profit.    (1st.) The negative. “God hath not appointed us to wrath.” St. Paul has in his eye, what our proud nature cannot bear to hear of, the sovereignty of God. It is as though he had said, we are all by nature children of wrath. We have all by practice deserved wrath. Here is myself, the other day I did not know the Son of God, but persecuted Him and His servants. If God had dealt with us according to our just deserts, we should have suffered His eternal wrath in hell. Is your conscience convinced of this? Do your eyes see it? Does your tongue confess this? "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." - Romans 8:1 [KJV] There is not a more blessed declaration than this in the whole word of truth. It is the sweetest note sounded by the gospel trumpet, for it is the very crown of the whole jubilee. Is not condemnation the bitterest drop in the cup of trembling? the most thrilling, piercing note of that terrible trumpet which sounded so long and so loud from Sinai's blazing top that all the people that were in the camp trembled?
