REST

"Leaning on Jesus' bosom." -John 13:23 [KJV]   Methinks I would contemplate for a while the privilege of this highly-favoured disciple John. Surely to sit at the feet of Jesus, to look up at His face, to behold the Lamb of God, and to hear the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth, what should I have thought of this but a happiness unspeakable and full of glory! But the beloved apostle leaned on Jesus's bosom. Oh, Thou condescending Saviour! didst Thou mean to manifest, by this endearing token, how dear and precious all Thy redeemed ones are in Thy esteem?     But stop, my soul. If John lay on Jesus's breast, where was it Jesus Himself lay, when He left all for thy salvation? The disciple whom Jesus loved lay upon Jesus's bosom; but He, whom the Father loved, lay in the bosom of the Father - nay, was embosomed there; was wrapt up in the very soul of the Father from eternity. Who shall undertake to speak of the most glorious state of the Son of G

Lamb of God!

"Lamb of God, we fall before thee,  Humbly trusting in your cross:  That alone be all our glory;  All things else are dung and dross. You we own a perfect Savior,  Only source of all that's good.  Every grace, and every favor  Comes to us thro' Jesus' blood."                                                                          -preacher Wm. Mason

A Diagnosis of Modern Religion

The “evangelism” of the last sixty years has not evangelized. The “revivals” of the last sixty years have not revived, and the “salvation” of the last sixty years has not saved. Why? Because men have not been told who Jesus is and what He did. They have accepted a popular “Jesus” that has turned America into a gang of Hell-raising, Sabbath-desecrating church members. The Jesus of the Bible is not their Lord. -preacher Rolfe P. Barnard (1904-1969 A.D.) diagnosing the situation in the early 1960s —What would he say today?

Abounding Grace

"He will be very gracious unto thee; at the voice of thy cry, when H e shall hear it, H e will answer thee." -Isaiah 30:19 [KJV]   Mark, my soul, what is here said; for every word in this sweet scripture tells. Thy God, thy Saviour, thy Jesus, knows thy voice, hears thy cry, and will assuredly answer. He will not only be gracious, but very gracious. He waits to be gracious; waits the most suited time, the best time, the praying time, the crying time; for He times His grace, His mercy, to thy need. And though thou knowest it not, yet so it is; when His time is near at hand, which is always the best time, He puts a cry in thine heart; so that the time of thy cry, and the time for the manifestation of His glory, shall come together. Is not this to be gracious; yea, very gracious? So that, while thou art looking after Him, He is looking upon thee. And before thou callest upon Him, He is coming forth to bless thee. Is not this very gracious? Now then, my soul, make a memorand

Weekend Gospel message to follow for All Hands (26-28FEB21) Heads-Up --- Please find enclosed encouragement in  SO GREAT SALVATION  by the perfect and finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy and wretched sinners by His sovereign free grace - God's unmerited favor - from their sins and from Hell: TWO OPPOSING TESTIMONIES The Pharisee in Luke 18:11-12 proudly stated, “ God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.” The publican in Luke 18:13 cried, “ God be merciful [propitious] to me a sinner.” One, the testimony of the Pharisee, was the rantings of a self-righteous unbeliever. The other, the testimony of the publican, was the testimony of a sinner saved by grace through the Lord Jesus Christ. The Pharisee sought and thought he had found righteousness by what he imagined God had enabled him to be and do. The publican sought and fou

WARNING MESSAGE

The Delusion of the Free Will Doctrine John 6:44, " No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." “No Man can come to me” This verse of Holy Scripture destroys the false doctrine of free will, and free moral agency which masquerade as truth; but behind the false face of those doctrines are the gates of hell. Our Lord Jesus Christ said “no men can come to me”. This is a direct statement of fact from the mouth of the God-Man. Gainsayers may seek to alter the meaning of these six words; they may wrest the scriptures to their own destruction (II Peter 3:16); but the doctrine of Christ stands fast. There is not one individual of all mankind that has the ability to come to Christ Jesus believing the doctrine of Christ by an act of his will, choice, or decision. No man can come to Christ Jesus because of the adversary who holds him captive, as it is written: “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are

COME TO CHRIST

SINNERS NEED A MIRACLE! If a man is near-sighted, he only needs corrective glasses; but if he is BLIND, he needs a miracle only God can give– SIGHT! If a man is sick, he only needs medicinal aid; but if he is DEAD, he needs a miracle only God can give– LIFE! If a man has a weak heart, perhaps changing his diet and habits will improve his condition; but if he has a STONY HEART, a deceitful, desperately wicked heart, he needs this miracle- "...a NEW HEART also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26-27).  Knowing these things to be true and knowing the desperate, depraved condition in which Adam's fall has plunged all mankind, I believe, preach, and insist upon one solemn certain fact– "SALVATION IS OF THE LORD." Let every son of Adam who reads these words come (like the leper in Matthew ch. 8) to Christ and worship Him, saying, "LO

Christ JESUS ~ our All in All!

"...Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption." - I Corinthians 1:30 [KJV] What a sweet subject for my morning meditation is here! Who is it, my soul, is made of God to thee these precious things but Jesus? And mark how they are made so. I am a poor ignorant creature, grossly ignorant by reason of the fall. I knew not my lost estate, much less the way of recovery. Here Jesus became to me wisdom. By His illuminating the darkness of my mind, He led me to see my ruin and my misery. But this would never have brought me out of it; for though I saw my lost estate, yet still I had no consciousness by what means I could be recovered. Here again Jesus came to my aid, and taught me, that as I needed righteousness, He would be my righteousness, and undertake for me to God. But even after this was done, I felt my soul still the subject of sin; and how to subdue a single sin I knew not. Here Jesus came again, and gave me to see, that as H

The LORD's Promise...

"Yea, all kings shall fall down before Him: all nations shall serve Him. For He shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in His sight." -Psalm 72:11-14 [KJV]

Our Daily Bread ~ Christ JESUS our LORD

"He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack." - II Corinthians 8:15 [KJV]   My soul! here is a delightful morsel for thee to feed upon this morning. Thou art come out to gather thy daily food, as Israel did in the wilderness. Faith had no hoards. Thou wantest Jesus now as much as thou didst yesterday. Well then, look at what is here said of Israel. They went out to gather—what? Why, in the morning bread—God's gift. Such is Jesus, the bread of God, the bread of life. And as Israel would have been satisfied with nothing short of this, so neither be thou. And as Israel was never disappointed, so neither wilt thou, if thou seek it in faith, as Israel did. And observe, "they that gathered most had nothing over;" so "he that gathered least had no lack." Yea, my soul, no follower of Jesus can have too much of Jesus; nothing more than he wants—nothing to spare. So the poorest child of God, that hath the least

The Wednesday Word

The Gospel and Faith: Part 5 by D.G. Miles McKee   As the gospel is preached, the Holy Spirit will generate faith (Romans 10:17) … and faith will cause the believer to see that God became a man. Not only did He become man, but faith also sees that He became our man.  Faith receives that this God-Man, Christ Jesus, became our representative.  Now, just to stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance the first representative man was Adam. His fall was our fall.  He represented us.  But God in His grace and mercy gave us a Second Man, the Last Adam, who would regain all that was lost in the first (see 1 Corinthians 15:45-47). Because the Second Man represented us, we can say, “When He lived, I lived, when He died I died and when He rose again I rose again.” When the gospel is proclaimed and applied, faith sees many things. Among them it grasps that we were in Christ when redemption was accomplished. By faith, the believer can now say I have lived a perfect life because I lived it

Flee to Christ JESUS today!

“ Come now, and let us reason together, saith the L ORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” -Isaiah 1:18-19 [KJV] COME to the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t come to the Preacher, or Church, or Baptism, or some fleshly experience. COME to the Lord Jesus – COME to God by Him. COME with your heart opened to Him. COME sincere and honest with Him. He knows your very thoughts. COME NOW to Him. As you are reading this article COME to the Lord Jesus. He waits now to hear the voice of your heart, begin to speak to Him NOW. COME now and REASON with Him. Not about your goodness, but your badness; not about your obedience, but disobedience, your sins. Tell Him your sins are exceedingly sinful, more than you could ever comprehend. Tell Him you are worthy to be judged and sent to eternal misery for your sins. Tell Him how red and black and damnable yo

Hold us up, LORD JESUS!

"Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But My people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit." -Jeremiah 2:11 [KJV]   Pause, my soul, over these words! Was it ever known that any nation changed their dunghill gods for others? Such regard had they for whatever ignorance had set up, that the veneration never after ceased. But Israel, above every other nation of the earth, manifested folly, and even exceeded the most senseless and stupid of men. My soul! dost thou not in Israel's folly behold thy own? Was there ever one, when the Lord first called thee, less deserving? A transgressor, as the Lord knew thee, from the womb! And yet this did not prevent the Lord from calling thee.  He loved thee because He would love thee; gave thee His Christ, — gave thee His Holy Spirit—gave thee the name, the privilege, the adoption of a son. What returns hast thou made? How often since hath thy backslidings, thy coldness, thy departures, been like Israe

FREEDOM IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."   -II  Corinthians 3:17 [KJV]   What liberty, my soul! art thou brought into by thine adoption into the family of God in Christ? Not from the assaults of sin; for thou still carriest about with thee a body of sin, under which thou groanest. Not from the temptations of Satan; for he is still levelling at thee many a fiery dart. Not from outward troubles; for the world thou art still in, thou findest it a wilderness state. Not from inward fears; for thine unbelief begets many. Not from the chastisement of thy wise and kind Father: for then many a sweet visit of His love, under the rod, would be unknown. Not from death; for the stroke of it thou must one day feel—though, blessed be Jesus, He hath taken out the sting in His blood and righteousness. What liberty then is it, my soul, thou enjoyest? What hath the Spirit of the Lord, as a spirit of revelation, discovering to thee the glory of Jesus, and thy interest in Him, brou

Jesus Christ and Him crucified

Jesus crucified should be the Alpha and Omega of all our preaching and teaching. Woe to the man who makes anything else the subject of his ministry. "God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world" (Galatians 6:14) . Do not tell me you preach sound doctrine, you preach rotten doctrine if you do not preach Christ. Preach nothing up but Christ, and nothing down but sin. Preach Christ; lift Him up high on the pole of the gospel, as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, and you will accomplish your life’s end, but preach orthodoxy, or any form of doxy, if you have left out Christ, there is no manna from heaven, no water from the rock, no refuge from the storm, no healing for the sick, no life for the dead.  If you leave out Christ, you have left the sun out of the day, and the moon out of the night; you have left the waters out of the sea, and the floods out of the river; you have l

Pressing into Christ JESUS

"I will say unto God, D o not condemn me; shew me wherefore T hou contendest with me ." -Job 10:2 [KJV]   My soul, art thou at any time exercised with any trying dispensations? Doth thy God, thy Jesus, seem to hide His face from thee? Are His providences afflicting? Art thou brought under bereaving visitations? Is thy earthly tabernacle shaken by sickness? Are the pins of it loosening? Are thy worldly circumstances pinching? Is prayer restrained? Oh, refer thy state, my soul, be it what it may, to Jesus. Tell thy Lord, that of all things, thy greatest dread and fear is, lest thou shouldest be mistaken concerning His love to thee. Say, as Job did, "Shew me wherefore T hou contendest with me." There is an Achan in the heart. Thy Jesus doth not withdraw for nothing. Love is in His lips. Salvation fills the whole soul of Jesus. Fly to Him, then, my soul! Say to Him, Lord, make me what Thou wouldest have me to be. Oh! for a word, a whisper of Jesus. I cannot live wit

Ephesians 1:6,7 [KJV] When I think of the wonder, majesty, and glory of God, I can hardly believe that such a worm as I am should be called to be an heir of His grace. Yet, it is just this vast difference that manifests the glory of His grace. He who is the highest, the holiest, and the greatest has set His affection on the lowest, the most sinful, and weakest. It is "to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace." -copied

Encouragement in The LORD JESUS!

“ Jesus Christ, God manifested in the flesh, was nailed through His hands and His feet to a cross. He bled for us, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. He shed His precious blood as of a Lamb without spot and without blemish. He was the perfect sacrifice and the ONLY one that God will ever accept. Any man that wants to know the true and the living God must go through Jesus Christ. It is Jesus Christ alone that God will accept. We are made accepted by God only through Jesus Christ, the One who gave His life as a ransom for us.” -copied

Great is Thy faithfulness - Thy mercy endureth for ever!

"And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them to do them good; but I will put M y fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from M e." -Jeremiah 32:40  [KJV]   Precious consideration to a poor exercised soul, that a covenant God in Christ, hath not only engaged for Himself, but undertaken for His people also. God will not, and His people shall not. My soul, take a short view of the foundation of this precious, precious promise. It is God's everlasting love, everlasting grace, everlasting covenant. And remember, the Author of it is not changeable as thou art: "with Him is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Moreover, it is purchased by the blood, sealed in the blood, and made eternally firm and sure in the blood and righteousness of Christ; the everlasting efficacy of which is as eternal as the Author of it. Neither is this all. There is an union with the person of thy Jesus. The head without a body

When I shall behold Thy face...

"Knowing that whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to b e present with the Lord." -II Corinthians 5:6,8 [KJV]   My soul, is this thy real language? Pause, while thou art at home in the body, how dark and dim, how few and short, are all the glimpses thou hast by faith of Jesus. What from the workings of corruption, the claims of the body, the concerns of the world, and the numberless, nameless, obstructions which surround thee, how little dost thou know of Jesus. And wouldest thou desire for ever to live at this distance? Think what the first view only of Jesus will be, when thou art once absent from the body, and present with the Lord! —What holy transports will break in upon the soul, when all the lines of love meet in one centre, to manifest the Lord Jesus to thy view in His redeeming fulness! If here below a single hour's enjoyment of thy Jesus, through the mediu

The Wednesday Word

3 Features of the Gospel Believer.   by D.G. Miles McKee Philippians 3:3, “ For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.” Our text is sometimes badly mis-used and mistreated.  Indeed, it has often been used to brutalize the saints as it makes imaginary, legalistic demands on them.  The verse has been used to insist that we become worshipers and people who rejoice. Good luck with that one! Our verse, however, has nothing to do with mandates.  It’s a description of the believer’s lifestyle.  You can turn it into law by demanding that we worship and rejoice … but no amount of legalistic preaching can get that desired result. Notice how in this marvelous little verse we see three excellent truths.  True Believers Worship. Worship is like breathing, we don’t have to be told to do it.  As reborn people it’s what we want to do.  When we obey the revealed word of God we are worshiping.  When we p

Gracious and Merciful Christ JESUS, KING OF GLORY!

When, by His grace, I know WH0 HE IS, I better understand who and what I am! When I know WHAT HE DID in obedience and death, I realize what I cannot do! When I understand WHY HE MUST SUFFER, I understand how God can be just and justify me. When I know WHERE HE IS, I can rest in the blessed hope that I shall one day be there too! -preacher Henry Mahan https://www.sermonaudio.com/source_detail.asp?sourceid=mahan

Take Comfort

"Help, L ORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men." -Psalm 12:1 [KJV] My soul, art thou sometimes distressed in the recollection of the languishing state of Zion - are faithful men, faithful ministers, taken away from the evil to come! And dost thou sometimes, at a mercy-seat, feel thyself drawn out in fervent prayer, that the Lord would fill up the vacancies He is making by death, and raise up pastors after His own heart, and believers who love Zion, to supply their place? Take comfort, my soul; thy Jesus loves Zion; and she is still engraven on the palms of His hands, and her walls are continually before Him. Jesus must have a church in the earth as long as the sun and moon endure.   Remember, the reins of government are in Jesus' hands; and however the enemies of Zion, like wild horses, would ride over the children of Zion, Jesus puts His bridle in their jaws, and will turn them back by the way they came. Remember, also,

Mighty To Save!

Let us learn never to despair of the salvation of anyone as long as they live. Fathers ought never to despair of prodigal sons. Mothers ought never to despair of self-willed, headstrong daughters. Husbands should never despair of wives, nor wives of husbands. There is nothing impossible with God. The arm of grace is very long and can reach those who seem very far off. Let us pray on, and hope on, for others--however unlikely their salvation may appear to be at present. "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save!"  -Isaiah 59:1 [KJV] -copied

Pressing In to Christ JESUS

"With purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord." -Acts 11:23 [KJV] My soul, art thou cleaving to thy Jesus? It is a grand thing so to do; and it must be from continued supplies of grace in Jesus, if thou art really doing it. A few points will shew. Is Jesus thy all? Is He uppermost in all things? Faith hath for its one object, Jesus. Let a true believer be wheresoever he may—at home, or abroad; alone, or in company; the closet, or the church, it is all the same, if he really, truly, cleaves to the Lord with purpose of heart; there is a looking unto Jesus for all things, and in all things. Again; if I cleave to the Lord, I shall do no one thing but in His strength, and deliberately desire nothing but for His glory. The graces of the Holy Spirit, implanted in the souls of the faithful, are fed and kept alive, and brought forth into exercise by the communications of Jesus. My joy then is in Jesus; not in myself, not in what I feel. These feelings of mine may languish

God with us!

"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them ." -Matthew 18:20  [KJV] What an encouraging declaration is this of our Jesus, to prompt the faithful to meet together on the Lord's day; or in short, any day, at all times, and all places. Observe, my soul, how sweet the Lord speaks; 'There am I in the midst of My people; not by My word only, not as represented in ordinances, not by the ministry of My servants, but I Myself spiritually. The calls, the motions of grace felt in the heart, the tender tokens, the manifestations of My suitableness, fulness, and all-sufficiency; these are all truly Mine, which, by the influences of My Spirit, I communicate among you.'  Oh, precious, condescending Lord, now we see what it is that constitutes a true gospel church—even Thy presence. Thou art the beauty and glory of it; and from Thee alone all power and efficacy is derived. Thy churches are, indeed, as Thou hast taught, the golden

God ordained Authority: Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate

Image
The Lesser Magistrate Doctrine  teaches that when the superior or higher ranking civil authority makes unjust/immoral law, policy, or court opinion – the lower or lesser ranking civil authority has both the God-given right  and duty  to refuse obedience to that superior authority; and if necessary, actively resist the superior authority. The doctrine was first formalized by Christian men in Magdeburg, Germany in 1550.  The lesser magistrate doctrine is rooted in the historic Christian doctrine of interposition.  Interposition   is where one steps into the gap – placing themselves in between the oppressor and his intended victim. Interposition can take place verbally or physically.  The law of God is the objective standard to which all men and all governments of men are accountable. If civil authorities make law, policy, or court opinion that is contrary to His law – the lesser magistrates are to interpose and  stop the evil .  America’s founders established this nation as a true federa
