ALL GLORY TO GOD

"According as H e hath chosen us in H im before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before H im in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to H imself, according to the good pleasure of H is will." -E PHESIANS 1:4, 5 [KJV]   It is a very solemn but a very true assertion, that no man can quicken his own soul; and it is an equally solemn, we might almost say, a tremendous truth, that the gospel only comes in power to those whom God has chosen unto eternal life. Indeed the one flows from the other; for if no man can quicken his own soul, it necessarily follows it must be of sovereign grace that it is quickened at all. Once you allow the fall, and acknowledge that a man is by nature so thoroughly dead in trespasses and sins that he cannot raise himself up out of this state to newness of life, then the doctrine of election necessarily follows. A living soul may reason thus: "Am I quickened? Yes

Where else can you go?

I constantly try to drive home this point to our hearts: GO TO CHRIST ! Yet there are many who still will not go to Christ. I ask you this question: Where else can you go? Where else can you go for forgiveness of your sin? It is “the blood of Jesus Christ H is Son cleanseth us from all sin” [I JOHN 1:7 ] . Where else can you go for salvation? “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” [ACTS 4:12 ] . Where else can you go for righteousness? “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” [GALATIANS 2:21 ] . Where else can you go for the water of life? “If any man thirst, let him come unto M e, and drink” [ J OHN 7:37 ] . Where else can you go for the way of salvation, the truth of God, and eternal life? “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by M e ” [ J OHN 14:6

The Grand Design

The grand design of the Heavenly Father in creation, providence, and salvation is to have a new heaven and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness, populated by a holy people out of all nations, perfectly conformed to the likeness of His Son. This work He gave to our Lord Jesus in the eternal council and covenant to accomplish, to perfect, and to deliver to Him at the end. And "He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till He have set judgment in the earth" [ISAIAH 42:4 ] . - Gospel report by preacher Henry Mahan

Daily Loaded with Benefits

"Blessed be the LORD, w ho daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah" [PSALM 68:19] . This verse has so much packed into it. The LORD is the one who daily loads us down with benefits. Think on some of them, each day we have air to breathe, loved ones to share our lives with, food and drink, homes to live in and bread to eat and wonderful pictures in nature to see. Most important is we have a God who is ever present and promises He will never leave you nor forsake you. This is great comfort for the believer! The believer’s sins are forgiven, not just his past sins, but his future sins as well. "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin" [ROMANS 4:8] . - Gospel report by preacher Wayne Boyd

What Christ Has Done For Us

"But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; t hat being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." -T ITUS 3:4-7 [KJV]   These verses reveal unto us the very essence and glory of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. 1). Divine Intervention , "the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared." One thing is most obvious, we did not merit God's grace. We were shut out by sin, and on the fast track to destruction, deserving of God's righteous wrath [ R OMANS 6:23 ] . But our sovereign God intervened and came to our rescue. He was manifested in our nature, in the flesh [ R OMANS 8:3; G ALATIANS 4:4 ] to fulfill all righteousness and to

Good Warfare

"This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck." - I TIMOTHY 1:18-19 [KJV]   This "good warfare" is carried on against three principal enemies—the flesh, the world, and the devil; and each of these enemies so closely allied to ourselves, and each so powerful and so hostile, that they must surely overcome us, unless we are "strengthened with might in the inner man." There is the flesh, with all its baits, charms, and subtle attractions, continually laying its gins and traps for our feet, perpetually ensnaring us in some evil word or some evil work, and we in ourselves utterly defenceless against it. Said I defenceless? Yea, eager to run into it, like the silly bird that sees the grains of corn spread in the trap, but thinks not, when it

GOD WITH US!

“ The LORD of h osts is with us; t he God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” - PSALM 46:11 [KJV] Here the Psalmist speaks as directed by the Holy Spirit to praise and bless the LORD who is the Refuge of His people. The LORD who is with us is declared to be, “The LORD of hosts,” the One who has universal dominion over the whole universe. He is the mighty God who rules and reigns in heaven and earth…who speaks and it is! And He is revealed to be, “The God of Jacob.” He who has covenanted to be gracious to whom He will be gracious and show mercy to whom He will show mercy. The Mighty Commander and Emperor of all things is He who is touched with the feelings of our infirmities and whose heart is ravished with the eye of faith, love and desire from those that He has everlastingly loved. - Gospel report by preacher Marvin Stalnaker Please find enclosed link to Audio Gospel Sermons: https://www.sermonaudio.com/source_detail.asp?sourceid=katy

CHRIST OUR SHIELD

"But T hou, O L ORD , art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head." -P SALM 3:3 [KJV] If your soul has ever been favoured with a taste of mercy, with a sip of the brook by the way; if ever your conscience has felt the application of atoning blood, or the love of God has ever been shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost, when the law comes to curse you, endeavour always to bear in mind that THE LORD JESUS CHRIST STANDS AS THE SHIELD BETWEEN YOU AND ITS CURSE. The law has therefore nothing to do with you that believe, it has cursed Jesus Christ for you; as the Apostle declares, "He was made a curse for us ; " and again, "Who H is own self bare our sins in H is own body on the tree , " etc. Therefore the law has nothing to do with you who believe in Christ Jesus. He has intercepted the curse for you, and, by receiving it into His own body and soul, bore it harmless away from you. It is a blessed act of faith when

Getting In!

"Behold, thy days approach that thou must die" -Deuteronomy 31:14 [KJV] Many years ago, a preacher, Dr Charles H. Berry, had, at a young age received the highest honours his denomination could confer. His fame as a preacher was as wide as the English-speaking world. But he was a theological liberal. He, at that stage of his life, didn’t believe in the fundamentals of grace, the blood and substitutionary atonement. He told the following story of his conversion to his friend, Dr J. H. Jowett.   “One night there came to me, a Lancashire girl, with her shawl over her head, and with clogs on her feet.”   “‘Are you the minister?’ she said.   “‘Yes.’   “‘Then I want you to come and get my mother in’   “Thinking it was some drunken brawl, I said, ‘You must get a policeman.’   “Oh, no,’ said the girl, ‘my mother is dying, and I want you to get her into salvation.’   “‘Where do you live?’   “‘I live at so and so, a mile and a half from here.’   “‘Is

A Wedding Garment

"Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless" [MATTHEW 22:12 ] . He had a garment, but not a wedding garment. It was one of his own providing, like those who have a righteousness of their own, of whom the Lord elsewhere speaks, "Woe to the rebellious children, saith the L ORD , that take counsel, but not of Me; and that cover with a covering, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin" [ISAIAH 30:1 ] .  Precious Lord Jesus, clothe me with the wedding garment of Thy righteousness; and feed me with the rich food of Thy body and blood; yea, Lord, be Thou my covering, my joy, my all; that when at Thy church, at Thy table, at Thine house of prayer below and at Thy kingdom of glory above, the King cometh in to see His guests, my soul may cry out, in Thine own blessed words and with a joy unspeakable and full of glory, "I will greatly rejoice in the L ORD , my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He ha

"THESE CALAMITIES"

"Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in Thee: yea, in shadow of Thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast." -P SALM 57:1 [KJV] The words of this Psalm are said to have been written by David when he fled from Saul in the cave. He surely must have felt that he was being overwhelmed by a multitude of “calamities.” The Hebrew word for “calamities” is defined by words such as “iniquity, mischief, mischievous things, naughtiness, noisome, perverse things, very wickedness.” No doubt he felt the presence of these things within himself as a sinner and all around him in the world. He rejoiced and took comfort in the fact that both would end. These calamities would pass. But until God brought them to an end, where could he hide? Was there a refuge? David’s refuge was “ in the shadow of Thy wings.” He, like all believers, hid himself under the safety of divine sovereignty, in the saving work of the coming Ch

The God of my Salvation

"The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted" [PSALM 18:46 ] . Salvation means the entirety of that work of Jehovah whereby sinners are delivered from sin and all of its effects and raised to the heights of everlasting glory through the blood and righteousness of Christ. Here is the message of scripture: "Salvation is of the LORD" [JONAH 2:9 ] . 1. God purposed salvation. "...Chosen unto salvation before the foundation of the world" [II THESSALONIANS 2:13 ] . 2. God provided salvation. "...God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering" [GENESIS 22:8 ] . 3. God possesses salvation, it is His to give. "Shew us Thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us Thy salvation" [PSALM 85:7 ] . 4. God has the prerogative to grant salvation to whom He will. "...I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious" [EXODUS 33:17 ] . 5. God proclaims salvation. "Behold, the
"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." - ROMANS 8:10   We want two things in lively operation; a spiritual death and a spiritual life. We want death put upon the flesh, upon sin, upon everything which is ungodly, that it may not reign or rule; and we want also the communication and maintenance of a divine life which shall act Godward, exist and co-exist in the same breast, and be in activity at the same moment. Here is sin striving for the mastery; but here also is a view of the cross of Christ; here is a testimony of bleeding, dying love. This puts a death upon sin. But as death is put upon sin and the lust is mortified, crucified, resisted, or subdued, there springs up a life of faith and prayer, of hope and love, of repentance and godly sorrow for sin, of humility and spirituality, of a desire to live to God's praise and walk in His fear. The cross gives both. From the cross comes de

BEHOLD THE LOVE OF GOD!

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." -I John 3:1 [KJV] There is a great deal said in religious circles about the love of God, but few have a real scriptural concept of the truth of God's love as it is manifested in the scriptures. The general idea most people have is, "that God loves everybody without exception and is trying His best to save everybody, but the sinner will not cooperate." The truth of God's character revealed in the word is that God is Holy, Just and His love is always in harmony with His Holy character as a Just God and a Saviour [ISAIAH 45:21 ] . Those for whom He loves in Christ [REVELATION 1:5] , elected in Christ [JOHN 6:37 ] , redeemed in Christ [ E PHESIANS 1:7 ] must be justified in Christ [ R OMANS 8:28-30 ] and will be called out of bondage into Light [ C OLOSSIANS 1:12-13 ] . Here are some scriptures that describe this true love of God to His

Thanksgiving and Prayer

The Apostle Paul says, “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” [ I T HESSALONIANS 5:17-18 ] . This is the will of God; that we rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks. What we are, what we have, where we are, and all that happens in the life of a believer are all according to the will of God for us. Let us rejoice in prosperity or adversity and live in an attitude of thanksgiving and prayer, even when we have no particular request. Very ungrateful is the man who does not set so high a value on the love of God, the righteousness of Christ, and the hope of eternal life that he allows anything in this life to overshadow that wonderful gift of grace. "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." - I CORINTHIANS 3:11 [KJV]   We are very eager to put our hands to work. Like Uzzah, we must needs prop up the ark when we see it stumbling; when faith totters, we must come to bear a helping hand. But this is prejudicial to the work of God upon the soul. If the whole is to be a spiritual building; if we are "living stones" built upon a living Head, every stone in that spiritual temple must be laid by God the Spirit. And if so, everything of nature, of creature, of self, must be effectually laid low, that Christ may be all—that Christ, and Christ alone, may be formed in our heart, the hope of glory. How many trials some of you have passed through! how many sharp and cutting exercises! how many harassing temptations! how many sinkings of heart! how many fiery darts from hell! how many doubts and fears! how much hard bondage! how many galling chains! how often has the

Debating or Preaching?

• “ We are fully persuaded that a week’s debating is worth a year’s preaching.” – Alexander Campbell • “ Men through debating God will not know God in salvation, for that knowledge comes through preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.” –Daniel Parks • “ For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” –God, quoted by Paul, an apostle [I CORINTHIANS 1:21 ] – Posted by brother R.L. Vaughn 2016.1.21 on his website
"There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen." -J OB 28:7 [KJV]   Growth in grace is not progressive sanctification and fleshly holiness on the one hand, nor a false and delusive establishment on the other. The narrow path lies between these two extremes. On the one side is Seneh, and on the other side is Bozez [I SAMUEL 14:4 ] , Pharisaic holiness and Antinomian security; and between these two sharp rocks lies the "path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen." From dashing on either of these rocks a living man is kept only by the mysterious dealings of God with his spirit, and the internal exercises through which he continually passes. A constant acquaintance with his own vileness preserves him from a self-righteous holiness in the flesh; a daily cross and a rankling thorn keep him from careless presumption. His path is indeed a mysterious one, full of harmonious contradictio
"But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul." -H EBREWS 10:39 [KJV]   The Scriptures have brought certain marks not only to test, but also to comfort God's people. But in order to keep them tremblingly alive to the fear of being deceived; in order to set up an effectual beacon lest their vessel should run upon the rocks, the blessed Spirit has revealed such passages as we find in the sixth and tenth chapters of the Hebrews. They seem set up by the Spirit of God as a light-house at the entrance of a harbour. Is it not so naturally? Some shoal or sand-bank often lies near the entrance of a port, which the mariner has to guard against. How is he guarded? A light-house is erected on or near the spot, which warns him of the shoal. Now I look on the sixth and tenth chapters of the Epistle to the Hebrews as two light-houses standing near the entrance of the harbour of eternal safety. And their language i

Complete in Christ!

“And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power : ” - COLOSSIANS 2:10 [KJV] Here before us in our text we have Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, telling the Colossian believers and we who believe, almost 2,000 years later, that the believer in Christ is complete in Him. Paul here in this Epistle is battling Gnosticism, Judaizers and angel worship. There was a three prong attack occurring at the time of this writing against the believers in Colosse. Paul here lays a death blow to them all by telling the Colossian believers that they are complete in Christ! All through this Epistle, Paul has been contrasting the Supremacy of Christ and the all sufficiency of Christ with the things the false teachers were teaching; that you had to keep the Mosaic law, you had to be circumcised to be saved, that you must keep certain days and abstain from certain drink and food. Paul again lays a death blow to these errors the false teachers ar
