"Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied." - I PETER 1:2 [KJV] When we see and feel how we need grace every moment of our lives, we at once perceive a beauty in the blessing thus asked for in an abundant, overflowing measure. We cannot walk the length of the street without sin. Our carnal minds, our vain imaginations, are all on the look out for evil. Sin presents itself at every avenue, and lurks like the Arab in the wilderness, or the prowling night thief for every opportunity of open or secret plunder. In fact, in ourselves, in our fallen nature, except as restrained and influenced by grace, we sin with well-nigh every breath that we draw. We need, therefore, grace upon grace, or, in the words of the text, grace to be "multiplied" in proportion to our sins. Shall I say in proportion? Nay, if sin abounds, as to our shame and sorrow we know it does, we want grace to much more abound. When the neep tide of sin flows in with the mud and mire...

Encouragement in Christ Jesus

T HE WEDNESDAY WORD What Faith Sees D.G. Miles McKee “ Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). But how is faith obtained? Listen to this! “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Its no wonder the Word of God is under such attack nowadays Real faith, is not faith in ourselves or faith in what we do. No indeed! But real faith is a living, personal faith, in that living, personal Saviour who came to earth and lived, died, was buried and rose again. And real faith now informs us that this same Saviour ascended into heaven and is now ruling and reigning and seated in cosmic authority (see Acts 2:33; Hebrews 10:12). “Behold Him there, the risen Lord, The sinless spotless sacrifice. Upward I look and see Him there, Who made an end of all my sin.” As we listen to what God’s word says about Christ Jesus and His work for us, faith grows. Faith bows to the divine record of the person, work and offices of...

God's Gospel - His Righteousness Revealed

Have you ever stopped to think about this, the people on earth who have appeared the most zealous for God did not know Him and died in their sins.  The apostle Paul used his own kinsmen after the flesh as an example of this sobering fact: “ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God ” [ROMANS 10:1-3 ] . We should remember this as we consider our religious family members, coworkers and friends around us who know nothing about and reject what they do know of the “ gospel wherein the righteousness of God is revealed..” [ROMANS 1:16,17 ] . But most of all, we should remember it when considering ourselves! - Gospel report by preacher Gary Shepard Sovereign Grace Baptist ...
