He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not." -Job 14.1, 2 [KJV] Never a day passes in a Christian’s life when he is not presented with objects, which should make him reflect on his final exit.  No state of life is exempt from troubles from infancy to the grave.  Even the best of saints have scarcely time to dress their souls before they must put off their bodies.  Too much time is spent grasping at the shadow and therefore failing to appropriate the substance.  Human life is flattering in its beginning because it comes like a flower, but it is soon gone and leaves without returning.  Death brings the Christian into eternal rest:  "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do ...

Good News from Bethlehem! by D. G. Miles McKee Bethlehem means, “The House of Bread.” It was small, insignificant town but what a prominent place it had in Scripture. It was in Bethlehem that Jacob buried Rachel. It was in Bethlehem that Ruth and Boaz met and lived. It was from Bethlehem that king David hailed. It was in the hills around Bethlehem that the lambs destined for Temple sacrifice were both born and raised. But of greatest significance, it was at Bethlehem that, Christ, the true, sacrificial Lamb came into this world. There was no Palace or no Temple in Bethlehem. There was only an inn for travellers journeying between Hebron and Jerusalem but when God incarnate was born, He wasn’t even given a room. This shows us something of the humility of God. It also demonstrates that, in His human experience, God began life as a reject and in His life He was despised and rejected.  That is why He knows our pain when we feel like rejected outcasts.   Thought for the Day, December 24, 2024,   "Christians are tried to show what measure of grace they have and to purify that which is in them. They can rejoice if they are partakers of Christ’s sufferings: “that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:10) . Christ is the saints’ example, but they must understand that their imitation of His suffering is not attainment. No one can flatter himself with the hope of arriving at a point in this life beyond which there is no further improvement. Whatever the trials might be, God will complete that which concerns His children because He will not forsake the work of His grace. The unconscious shepherds in the fields had no other thought but of their flock. But what a morning did the angels call them to celebrate! Now, my, soul, sit down and take a leisurely survey, of the wonderful story of Jesus's birth. Mark the several volumes in it; for a night, yea, for a whole eternity must end before the subject of God incarnate can be exhausted in the meditation.
