The Power of Love

"Love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." - I JOHN 4:7, 8 [KJV]   If ever you have loved Jesus with a pure affection; if ever you have felt Him near, dear, and precious to your soul, that love can never be lost out of your heart. It may lie dormant; it does lie dormant. It may not be sweetly felt in exercise; but there it is. "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha" [I CORINTHIANS 16:22]. You would be under this curse if the love of the Lord Jesus Christ were to die out of your heart. But this love is often sleeping.   When the mother sometimes watches over the cradle and looks upon her sleeping babe with unutterable affection, the infant knows not that the mother is watching its slumbers; but when it awakes, it is able to feel and return its mother's caresses. It is so with the soul sometimes when love in the heart i...

GOOD NEWS

Weekend Gospel message to follow for All Hands (17-19JAN20) Heads-Up --- Please find enclosed encouragement in SO GREAT SALVATION by the perfect and finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy and wretched sinners by His sovereign free grace - God's unmerited favor - from their sins and from Hell: "Salvation is wholly of grace, not only undeserved but undesired by us until God is pleased to awaken us to a sense of our need of it. And then we find everything prepared that our wants require or our wishes conceive; yea, that He has done exceedingly beyond what we could either ask or think. Salvation is wholly of the Lord and bears those signatures of infinite wisdom, power, and goodness which distinguish all His works from the puny imitations of men. It is every way worthy of Himself, a great, a free, a full, a sure salvation. It is great whether we consider the objects (miserable, hell-deserving sinners), the end (the restoration of su...

BEAR ARMS WITH LAWFUL INTENT AND GOOD PURPOSES! Re: Virginia Governor's Infringement of The People's God-Ordained Duty & Gross Violation of U.S. Constitution & of Holy Writ (Zechariah 8:16-17) The following quotations are instructive as they are timely for us all in these perilous days. May our Judge, Lawgiver & King JESUS be exalted and His people encouraged. U.S. Chief Justice Marshall: “ All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void.” -Marbury vs. Madison 5 US (2 Cranch) 137, 174, 176, (1803 A.D.). "A legislature must not obstruct our obedience to Him from whose punishment they cannot protect us. All human laws which contradict His laws we are in conscience bound to disobey." -George Mason "But hereof be assured, that all is not lawful nor just that is statute by civil laws; neither yet is everything sin before God, which ungodly persons allege to be treason." -Scottish preacher John Knox, c. 16th century ...

Humility

“ Humility is a strange flower; it grows best in winter weather and under storms of affliction.” -preacher Samuel Rutherford

Storms

“ Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept (regarded, taken heed to) Thy Word” (Psalm 119:67) . “ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes” (Psalm 119:71) . “ I know, O LORD, that Thy judgments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me” (Psalm 119:75) . In seasons of severe trial, the Christian has nothing on earth that he can trust to and is therefore compelled to cast himself on God alone. When no human deliverance can avail, he must simply and entirely trust himself to the providence and care of God. Happy storm that wrecks a man on such a Rock as this! O blessed hurricane that drives the soul to God, and to God alone! When a man is so poor, so friendless, so helpless that he has nowhere else to turn, he flies into his Father’s arms, and is blessedly clasped therein! When he is burdened with troubles so pressing and so peculiar that he cannot tell them to any but his God, he may be thankful for...

CHRIST SAVES TO THE UTTERMOST

"Jesus Christ H imself being the chief corner stone; in W hom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord." -E PHESIANS 2:20, 21 [KJV]   Christ is the Head of every member individually, as He is the Head of the whole body collectively. Growth of the body, from babyhood to manhood, is the growth of individual members in the body. If, then, I am a member of the mystical body of Christ Jesus, I shall grow. My growth may be so slow and gradual as to be scarcely perceptible; but it will be growth still. If I have union with Christ, I shall be supplied, at least in some measure, out of His fulness. He is my life, and He has promised, because He lives, I shall live also; and if I live by Him, I shall live upon and unto Him. Paul could say, "The life which I live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God;" and also, "And that H e died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, ...

Sweet Hour of Prayer

Amazing love, how rich and free, That God would pour His grace on me; Forgive all my iniquity, And save my soul eternally. Behold His matchless sovereign grace, He sent His Son to take my place; To bear my sin and then to die, The law’s demands to satisfy. Amazing love, how can it be, That Christ would die on Calvary? ‘Twas by that death He ransomed me, From condemnation I am free. Redeeming love surpasses thought, O what a work my Savior wrought; He drank the cup of vengeance dry, To save my soul and justify. Amazing love remains my theme, For in that bloody, crimson stream, All of my sins were washed away, Christ Jesus died my debt to pay. Redeeming love will be my song, When I shall join the heav’nly throng: Then gathered round His throne above, We’ll sing of His amazing love. Tune: “ Sweet Hour of Prayer ,” p. 361 (LM/DOUBLE) Words by preacher Jim Byrd
