The Most Valuable Thing that Any Sinner Needs...

“Buy the Truth, and Sell it Not”
 

(Proverbs 23:23)


The wise man is not saying that we in any way can buy the truth as it is applied in power by the Holy Spirit to the heart. One can buy a Bible which is truth, and one can even buy a copy of a truthful sermon. These are most certainly valuable tools, for we must have the Word of God in Christ Who is the truth. 

“Buy the truth” is literally, “GET the truth,” the same as when the wise man instructed his son to “Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth” (Proverbs 4:5). Men buy or set their goals on getting that which they hold valuable or what they need to live. My friend, the most valuable thing that any sinner needs is the true and saving knowledge of God’s mind and will concerning salvation by His free, sovereign grace in Christ Jesus, and the way that leads a sinner to Christ for all salvation. 


This truth is the Gospel of salvation, which comes from the God of truth, and has Christ, Who is the truth, for the substance of it. Sinners are directed and led to Christ by the Spirit of truth, and, thereby, given by God a love for the truth, which is a love for Christ. If God the Holy Spirit ever shows you the truth, and sets you free by that truth in Christ Jesus, you will never sell it, for you know that in doing so, you would be selling your very soul. Always remember, God’s people love the truth, they love Christ.

Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 19 October, 2025 A.D.

"Behold, he prayeth!"   -Acts 9:11 [KJV] In many trades, it is customary to shew samples or patterns. By these men judge of the goodness or quality of the whole. St. Paul sets himself forth as a sample, or pattern, of the free, distinguishing, sovereign, unmerited grace of God, that we should judge of its nature by its efficacy upon him. “I obtained mercy, for this cause, that in me first   (-a first rate sinner) Jesus Christ may shew forth His all long suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting”   (I Timothy 1:16.) Thou hast seen this pattern of free grace. What dost thou think of it?  The whole is alike with the pattern. It cometh alike upon elect sinners. "...be not conformed to this world." -Romans 12:2 [KJV] In proportion as we are conformed to the spirit of this world our understanding becomes dull in the things of God, our affections cold and torpid, and our consciences less tender and sensitive.
