Objections to Divine Election Answered

    Divine Election is the Scriptural doctrine stating that God the Father, before the foundation of the world, by His sovereign grace alone, blessed His foreknown people to be chosen to be holy, blameless, and saved (Ephesians 1:3f; II Thessalonians 2:13; Psalm 65:4 & 33:12; I Peter 1:2; et.al.). Divine Election is called “the election of grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer of works” (Romans 11:5f). We read also of “the purpose of God according to election ..., not of works but of Him who calls” (Romans 9:11). Jehovah calls His chosen people “My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He” (Isaiah 43:10). 

They are also called “Jehovah’s chosen ones” (Psalm 105:6, 43), “chosen in the Lord” (Romans 16:13). “The elect of God, holy and beloved” (Colossians 3:12), “the elect whom He chose” (Mark 13:20 adapted), “His own elect” (Luke 18:7), “God’s elect” (Romans 8:33; Titus 1:1), and “a chosen generation/race, ... a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy” (I Peter 2:9-10). They acknowledge themselves to God as “Your people, ... Your chosen ones, ... Your nation, ... Your inheritance” (Psalm 106:4f).
     

We here will consider some objections made by some professing Christians to this Scriptural doctrine of Divine Election.

1. Divine Election is not found in the Holy Scriptures. This objection is obviously from one who is unfamiliar with or willfully blind to the Scriptures.

2. Divine Election is too deep, dark, or mysterious to be taught. Beware of anyone who says so. His reason for saying so is suspect. The doctrine of Divine Election is not mysterious. Rather, it is plainly revealed in the Scriptures. Saints delight in this doctrine. It is neither too deep nor too dark for them.

3. Divine Election cannot be reconciled with Human Responsibility. They do not need to be reconciled. For they are not opposed to each other. However, the Scriptural doctrine of Divine Election is incompatible with the man-made (-false) doctrine of Man’s "Freewill."

4. Divine Election is wrong because God is no respecter of persons. None merited God’s respect. He chose wrath-deserving sinners to salvation.

5. Divine Election hinders evangelism. Belief in Divine Election did not hinder the evangelism of Jesus Christ, nor of His apostles, nor of later preachers like C.H. Spurgeon. However, Divine Election is indeed contrary to those who practice an “evangelism” contrary to that of Jesus and His preachers.

6. Divine Election makes God unjust. Paul the apostle, after mentioning “the purpose of God according to election” in Romans 9:11, showed the absurdity of such objections to it in verses 14-29.

THE GREAT TRUMPET BLAST ~ The Joyful Sound!

"The great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come, who were ready to perish." -Isaiah 27:13 [KJV] One trumpet has been blown, at the giving of the law, on mount Sinai: the voice of it sounded long, and waxed louder and louder.
