The Proof of Discipleship
Revive Thy work, O LORD
Thy mighty arm make bare
Speak with the voice that wakes the dead
And make Thy people hear.
Revive Thy work, O LORD
Create soul-thirst for Thee
And hungering for the Bread of Life
Oh may our spirits be.
Revive Thy work, O LORD
Exalt Thy precious Name
And by Thy Holy Ghost Divine
Our love for Thee enflame.
Revive Thy work, O LORD
And give refreshing showers
The glory shall be Thine alone
The blessings, Lord, be ours.

“By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.” -John 13:35 [KJV]
I am sure there are other marks of discipleship. You will believe the Truth, and you will confess Christ before men. You will hate that which is contrary to the Truth of the Gospel. I am sure there are many other things that could be said to be marks of discipleship. But these are not the mark Christ gives here.
The true mark He gives is love. Love to your brothers and sisters in Christ, love to His church, and loyalty to His people. If that is absent, no matter how sound one’s profession is, it is an empty profession. When this love is absent, as Paul said, I am as a sounding brass and tinkling symbol, I am nothing, and whatever I have profits me nothing!
