"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me."   -John 12:32 [KJV] My soul! it is blessed, and refreshing to the faith of God's children, to behold, in their almighty Redeemer, the same properties as are ascribed to the Father and the Spirit; and more especially in the points which concern their personal salvation. Jesus told the Jews, that none could come to Him, "except the Father, Who had sent Him, should draw them;" John 6:44 . And in the same chapter, He ascribes "the quickening power," which draws to Christ, unto the Holy Spirit, verse 63. But that His own sovereign power and Godhead is also included in this act of grace, He here teacheth us, by describing whose love and grace it is that sinners are drawn by! Precious Lord Jesus! let mine eyes be ever unto Thee for the quickening, reviving, restoring, comforting, and all healing graces, which Thou now art exalted, as a Prince and a Saviour to give unto Thy people.   And...

"Godliness is profitable unto all things." -I  Timothy 4:8 [KJV] What is "profitable?" I may define it in one short sentence—that which does the soul good. Now "godliness" is profitable unto all things, as doing the soul good in all circumstances. Here it stands apart and separate from everything of a worldly nature. Here it is distinguished from the "bodily exercise that profiteth little." It is "profitable unto all things." In sickness, in health; in sunshine, in storm; upon the mount, in the valley; under whatever circumstances the child of God may be, "godliness" or rather the "exercise" of godliness is profitable. And it is drawn out by these circumstances. It lives in the face of trials; it is strengthened by opposition; it becomes victorious through defeat; it gains the day in spite of every foe: "Stands every storm, and lives at last."   It does not die away like "bodily exercise;" it...

Thou shalt see now whether My word shall come to pass unto thee, or not." -Numbers 11:23 [KJV] Is it not an extraordinary thing in the history of Moses, that he, who had seen the miracles in Egypt, should stagger at God's promises to feed His people with a new supply in the wilderness? Had Moses forgotten the rock which gave water, or the daily supply of manna? But pause, my soul! look not at Moses; look at home.
