"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way ." -JOHN 14:6 [KJV] How is Jesus the way? In everything that He is to God's people He is the way. His blood is the way to heaven; "for the whole path," as Hart speaks, "is lined with blood." By His precious blood shed upon Calvary's tree He has put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself, and opened a way of access to God. His righteousness, also, is part of the way; for only so far as we stand clothed in His glorious righteousness have we any access unto, any acceptance with God the Father. And His love is the way; for if we walk in love, we walk in Him, for He is love. Every part of the way was devised and is executed by the love of His tender heart. But the way, also, is the way of tribulation. Was not Jesus Himself the great Sufferer? And if He be the way, the only way, I must be conformed to His likeness in suffering. Paul and Barnabas were gospel men. They preached "the Word" (Acts 13: 5-7; 25, 46, 49: 14: 3). "They preached the gospel" (Acts 14: 7, 21). The apostle Peter makes it clear that the preaching of the gospel and the preaching of the Word of God are interchangeable terms. He says, "The Word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you" (1 Peter 1:25). What the gospel is may be gathered from, among other places, two chapters (Acts 13 and 14) which record the apostles' first missionary journey. In their sermon in Acts 13, they describe Jesus as a Saviour. " Of this man's seed hath God according to His promise raised unto Israel a Saviour Jesus" (Acts 13:23). They tell of His salvation. "To you is the word of this salvation sent" (Acts 13:26). They preached about the cross (Acts 13:29). They preached about the resurrection (Acts 13:30; 33ff). They tell of forgiven...

The vital thing to understand about the blood of Christ is this: IT IS ENOUGH! Nothing else is needed to accomplish the salvation of all for whom His blood was shed. Not His blood plus my works; not His blood plus my “decision,” not His blood plus the ordinances; not His blood plus church membership; not even His blood plus my faith; His blood purchased my faith. Treasure in ancient times was generally hidden; it was concealed from the eye of man, hoarded up, and not brought out ostentatiously to view. Wealthy men of old hid the knowledge of their treasures, lest they should be spoiled of them by the hand of violence. So spiritually, the fear of the Lord is hidden in the heart, and lies deep in the soul; it is not spread out ostentatiously to view, but is buried out of sight in a man's conscience. The principle of “love” may well be distorted by men when they speak of the love of God to men. However, the principle of justice is not quite so easily distorted. Thus, the love of God to His people is described as their “justification.” In love, God justifies His elect, declaring them righteous through Jesus Christ and His righteous death. He does this showing that His love is a just love in Christ crucified and He is always at the same time “A JUST GOD and (not “but”) A SAVIOR.” His love is demonstrated by His giving Himself for us, redeeming us from all iniquity.
