Daring to Declare the Gospel of Christ

WHERE IS THE FEAR OF GOD TODAY? Is this not what is wrong with us? Is not this the whole story? This present generation is so taken up with the idea of our own importance and so occupied with the dignity of man, that we no longer fear God, if we ever feared Him. We are presumptuous, self-willed, unruly and dying a slow but sure death, and on the verge of complete ruin. If there is one word that describes this generation of religious people, it is "irreverence." Sophistication will yet kill this present generation. Men go to church today to patronize God, not to worship God. The majority of church-going people, judging from their attitude, believe that in attending church, they are conferring a great honor upon God. Church attendance is an excuse for a fashion parade and a show of pride. Men go to church to be entertained and amused. They insist that the preacher be a good mixer, entertainer, actor, and pulpit clown. The preacher who dares to declare the gospe...

Zeal for the Glory of God

"When Christ chased the money changers from the temple, John records, “ And His disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of Thine house hath eaten Me up ” (J OHN 2:17) . Christ’s holy anger and zeal over what was going on in the temple was born out of relationship. It was His Father’s house! He could not bare what was being done there. Likewise, all who are in spiritual relationship with the same Father in Christ, they cannot bear to sit in a godless place of false religion and listen to a man blaspheme God, deny His word and gospel, reduce Christ to a pathetic failure in His Person and work and glorify the will, works and worth of fallen sinners. If one can listen and endure such a mockery of God and His Son, there must not be a relationship with them. If we have received grace and salvation from God in Christ, our zeal for the glory of God our Father will surely keep us from participating in that which mocks Him!" - Gospel report by preacher Gar...

GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY AND ELECTION

“ Some people today say that they are perplexed by the doctrine of God's sovereignty and election. I am amazed that anyone who believes in God should stumble at God's sovereignty and election. For if there is a God, a King, eternal, immortal, invisible, and almighty, He has to be sovereign, and He must do all things according to His will, and He must choose according to His purpose!  Whom shall He consult? With whom shall He seek counsel and advice? One may DISLIKE THESE DOCTRINES; but you cannot get rid of them without denying altogether the existence of the infinite, wise, glorious God of heaven and earth. God would not be God were He not absolutely sovereign in His eternal pre-arrangements.” - Gospel report by preacher Horatius Bonar

To Receive Christ

"But as many as received H im, to them gave H e power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on H is name." -J OHN 1:12 [KJV] Wherever faith is given to the soul to "receive" Christ, there will be mingled with this faith, and blessedly accompanying it, love to the Lord of life and glory; and sometimes we may know the existence of faith when we cannot see it, by discerning the secret workings and actings of love towards that Saviour, in whom God has enabled us to believe. There will be, from time to time, in living souls a flowing forth of affection towards Jesus. From time to time, He gives the soul a glimpse of His Person; He shews Himself, as the Scripture speaks, "through the lattice;" passing perhaps hastily by, but giving such a transient glimpse of the beauty of His Person, the excellency of His finished work, dying love, and atoning blood as ravishes the heart, and secretly draws forth every affection of the soul, so t...

Encouraging Words for Afflicted Saints

Dear believer in Christ Jesus, the Savior has assured His followers of the reality of trials while we are in this world. Remember, however, afflictions are not divine judgments; none can be punished for sins in whose stead Christ has been punished. "There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus" (R OMANS 8:1) . It is true you will have tribulations, as the Savior said (J OHN 16:33) , but you will never be condemned because He endured the curse of the law as your Substitute. It is an undeniable truth that, unless the Lord returns, your body is headed to the grave, but your soul is not headed to hell. There can be no condemnation because the righteous Judge has pronounced you justified by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Where there is no guilt, there can be no judgment. You will not die in your sins because Christ has died for your sins. "Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say, rejoice!" ...

Comfort ye My people

"But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak." -HEBREWS 6:9 [KJV]   What is "salvation?" In looking at salvation, we must consider it in two points of view; salvation wrought out for us, and salvation wrought out in us. Salvation was wrought out for the Church by the finished work of the Son of God, when He cried with expiring breath, "It is finished." The salvation of "the remnant according to the election of grace" was then completely accomplished, so that nothing could be added to, or taken from it; for "by one offering H e hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified;" and thus the Church stands complete in Christ, "without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing." But there is a salvation which is wrought out in the soul; the manifestation and application of that salvation which Jesus wrought out by His sufferings, blood-shedding, ...
