But that will not be the case with the dear family of God. We read indeed that "many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake;" and whilst some awake "to everlasting life," others will awake "to shame and everlasting contempt," because their sins will be remembered and brought against them as evidences of their just condemnation.  But the wise, who "shall shine as the brightness of the firmament," will rise to glory and honour and immortality, and not one of their sins will be remembered, charged, or brought against them. It was so with Hezekiah. When Hezekiah was laid on his bed of sickness, death stared him in the face, and he expected he should be cut off, and cast into perdition. This opened the door for oppression; says he, " O L ORD , I am oppressed; undertake for me." The cold damps of death stood upon his forehead, and despair pressed upon his soul. All his fleshly religion vanished in a moment; and he had but just faith and strength enough to cry out under the grip of the oppressor's hand at his throat, "Undertake for me" (I SAIAH 38:14) . Oppression then is a weight and a burden superadded to poverty. It is not the same thing as poverty, but it is an additional infliction to poverty....

I would never minimize the importance of repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the name of our Lord, He grants us repentance to turn from our idols, to forsake our dead works and He gives us faith to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as our Prophet, Priest and King. We look to the blood and righteousness of this blessed Savior as the only way whereby a holy God can justly accept fallen sinners. Still, faith and repentance are not saviors. They are not our righteousness. There is but one who is the Savior from sin and He is "THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." He is the only Mediator between a holy God and sinful men. He Alone bore the sins of His people and endured the wrath of God in their stead. Christ satisfied offended justice by His substitutionary sacrifice. Full and free salvation is found only in Him.
