What is saving faith? Is it simply believing that God exists, knowing the facts about Jesus Christ, attending church, being baptized, giving money, or performing religious works? Or is biblical saving faith something much deeper—a work of God’s grace in the heart that brings a sinner into a living relationship with Jesus Christ?

In this powerful biblical sermon, “A Good Look at Saving Faith,” we examine the difference between genuine saving faith and a false profession of faith through the Word of God. Our main text is Mark 9:23–24, where the father of a suffering child cries out to Jesus: “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief.” These words express the struggle of a believer who trusts Christ while recognizing the weakness and imperfection of his own faith. This message challenges every listener to examine their faith in the light of Scripture and consider whether their confidence rests in Jesus Christ alone.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS SERMON • What Is Saving Faith? — Discover why true faith involves more than intellectual knowledge, religious activity, or outward profession. • Head Faith vs. Heart Faith — Understand why saving faith involves the mind and understanding but also reaches the heart, affections, and life. • False Faith vs. Genuine Faith — Learn why religious knowledge, outward reform, emotional sorrow, charitable giving, baptism, church membership, and impressive religious works cannot independently prove that a person possesses saving faith. • Examine Yourself — Consider the biblical call to examine whether you are in the faith and whether your confidence is truly in Christ. •

The Four Marks of Genuine Saving Faith — Explore four realities emphasized in this sermon: a heart broken over personal sin, the acknowledgment that we have no righteousness of our own, submission to God’s sovereignty in salvation, and receiving Jesus Christ alone as our complete acceptance before God. • Salvation Is of the Lord — Understand the importance of God’s mercy, grace, and sovereign work in bringing sinners to salvation. • Christ Alone Is Our Hope — See why salvation rests not in human goodness, religious achievements, or personal merit, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

KEY BIBLE VERSES 📖 Mark 9:23–24 — “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief.” 📖 2 Corinthians 13:5 — “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith.” 📖 Romans 10:9–10 — Believing in the heart and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord. 📖 Romans 10:17 — “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” 📖 Psalm 51:1–4 — Repentance, confession of sin, and the need for God’s mercy. 📖 Isaiah 64:6 — The insufficiency of our own righteousness. 📖 Romans 9:16 — Salvation depends on God’s mercy, not merely human willing or effort. 📖 Ephesians 2:8–9 — Salvation by grace through faith, not of works. 📖 Colossians 2:10 — Believers are complete in Christ.

A QUESTION FOR YOUR HEART

Are you trusting in your religious background, good works, church attendance, spiritual experiences, or personal righteousness—or are you resting in Jesus Christ alone? True saving faith is not merely an outward profession or an agreement with biblical facts. It is a faith that receives Christ, depends on His righteousness, acknowledges our need for mercy, and produces spiritual fruit through the work of God’s grace. May this message encourage you to search the Scriptures, examine your heart, and look to Jesus Christ as your only hope of salvation.
