“TIS FINISHED”
Tune: “From Every Stormy Wind” LM Words by Jim Byrd
We bless the name of Christ the Lord,
For through His blood we are restored;
Redemption’s work is fully done,
By Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son.
Each of the prophecies of old,
Concerning Christ, by men foretold;
They all are finished, for our God
Upon this earth in flesh has trod.
No sheep or goat on altars slain,
Could put away sin’s guilt and stain;
They all are finished, Christ has died,
Our holy God is satisfied.
The law in all its fearfulness,
Our Lord fulfilled in righteousness;
“’Tis finished.” Jesus fully met
The law’s demands and paid our debt.
O may these words bring joy and cheer,
Let none who trust Him ever fear;
“‘Tis finished,” Christ the Savior cried,
And by His blood we’re justified.

“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, Whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” -Isaiah 57:15 [KJV]

THE BELIEVER’S POSITION
The believer is perfect in Christ; but in himself he is a poor, feeble creature, ever liable to fall. Oh, the unspeakable blessedness of having One who can manage all his affairs for him at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens; One who upholds him always by His right hand; One who will never let him go; One who is “the same yesterday, today, and forever;” One who will bear him through all the difficulties and dangers which surround him and finally present him faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. Blessed forever be the grace that has made such provision for all our need in the blood of a spotless victim and the intercession of a Divine High Priest -preacher Scott Richardson

THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF GOD’S CHILDREN
By faith, the vessels of mercy take hold of Christ. Because our hold of faith upon the Savior is weak, our hold on Him is not our safety and security. The saints of God are forever safe in Christ because He holds us in His everlasting arms. A preacher of many years ago said, “This is our glory and security, that Christ’s left hand is always under us, and His right hand doth always embrace us.” -preacher Jim Byrd

PATIENCE
It is written that “all things are of God;” there are no exceptions. Patience, then, must be a delightful and willing submission to the will of the Lord and whatever He is pleased to bring about. -preacher Jim Byrd

LET BELIEVERS FOCUS ON CHRIST
Those who are weak in grace dwell more upon their sins than upon the Savior; more upon their misery than upon free grace and mercy; more upon that which may feed their fears than upon that which will strengthen their faith; more upon the cross they must bear than upon the crown of glory they shall receive; more upon those that are against them than upon the God Who is for them (Romans 8:31). For these reasons many are kept low and weak spiritually; it causes a leanness to their souls.
-Thomas Brooks, Puritan preacher (1608-1680 A.D.)

SOVEREIGN GRACE
Man’s entire apostasy and death in sin, so that he cannot save himself, and God’s entire supremacy, so that He saves whom He will, are doctrines exceedingly distasteful to human pride. But they are Scriptural. Why was one thief saved and the other lost? “Even so Father for so it seemed good in Thy sight” (Matthew 11:25-27). God was not bound to save the one and He had power enough to have saved the other, and neither could save himself. What made the difference? The Sovereign grace of God!
