Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 12 September, 2026 A.D.
Begin, my tongue, some heavenly theme
And speak some boundless thing
The mighty works and mightier NAME
Of our eternal King.
Tell of His wondrous faithfulness
And sound His Name abroad
Sing the sweet promise of His grace
And our Redeeming Lord.
Proclaim salvation from the Lord
For sinful, dying men
His hand has writ the Holy Word
With an immortal pen.
Oh might I hear Thy heavenly tongue
But whisper, “Thou art Mine!”
Those precious words would raise my song
To notes almost divine!
-Gospel hymn, “According to Thy Gracious Word”

“And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offense of the cross ceased.” - Galatians 5:11 [KJV]
And what is the preaching of circumcision? The preaching of anything you must do before you can be saved. As long as circumcision is preached, there will be no persecution. If someone would say I preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? It is only those who preach salvation ultimately conditioned upon the sinner that stirs up no persecution. Why? Because the offense, the scandal of the cross has been removed.
When people hear that salvation is entirely by grace, and human worth, works, and will have nothing to do with God’s salvation, men find that message offensive and scandalous! But when the offense of the Gospel is removed, so is its' saving power. Preachers fear people being offended by the message of grace. Paul feared men not being offended!

The only thing that would prevent a man from rejoicing in God’s electing grace is self-righteousness. Every objection is founded in self-righteousness. To all who have no righteousness, electing grace is good news!

I challenge anyone to put his or her finger on one Scripture in the Holy Bible where Christ ever turned away a truly repentant sinner. You will not find one! Many came in pride that were turned away. Many came in religion that were soon drawn away. Yet never was there one desperate sinner who came with great need and desire to be healed that was ever denied His grace.

GOD’S FREE AND SOVEREIGN GRACE
The doctrine of God’s free and sovereign grace is the greatest encouragement to poor, lost, helpless sinners. One who knows himself to be without merit before God, with no plea to make unto God but for mercy, will he not be glad to hear that the Lord does not look for worthiness in those He saves? Will he not be glad to hear that God has freely provided the only plea which He will accept - the life, death, and mediation of His Son, the Lord Jesus? Will it not make his heart glad to learn that God saves sinners freely and sovereignly, through faith in His Son?
NO MAN, though ever so sinful and vile, is discouraged by the Gospel of the free and sovereign grace of God in Christ Jesus! NO MAN, notwithstanding how moral and humanly good, can have any ground of true hope without this Gospel!
However sinful man is so proud, so self-righteous, so sinful and deceived about himself, that when it is declared unto him that God saves sinners on purpose, fully free and forever, with no regard to human worth, works, or merit - he is offended, gets angry and seeks another preacher with another message (unless God intervenes!).
Tell sinful man that God has merely made salvation available and that it is up to sinners to avail themselves of it; that they must do or perform something to obtain it, and they set to work as happy as can be (saving themselves).
“He hath filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He hath sent empty away.”
- Luke 1:52
