Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 08 September, 2026 A.D.

In Thy great Name, O Lord, we come
To worship at Thy feet;
O, pour Thy Holy Spirit down,
On all that now shall meet.

We come to hear Jehovah speak,
To hear the Saviour’s voice;
Thy face and favor, Lord, we seek,
Now make our hearts rejoice. 

Teach us to pray, and praise, and hear,
And understand Thy Word;
To feel Thy gracious presence near,
And trust our living Lord.

This house with grace and glory fill,
This congregation bless;
Thy great salvation now reveal,
Thy glorious righteousness.

"O sing unto the LORD a new song; for He hath done marvellous things: His right hand, and His holy arm, hath gotten Him the victory. The LORD hath made known His salvation: His righteousness hath He openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.  He hath remembered His mercy and His truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God." -Psalm 98:1-3

"But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water." -John 19:34 

 

Why did the soldier do this? Was it out of spite or cruelty? They knew that our Lord Jesus had died; that was the reason they did not break His legs as they did the two thieves. But we know why they did not break His legs. "Not a bone of the passover lamb was to be broken" (Exodus 12:46); and we know why the soldier pierced His side. Oh yes, that it be established indeed, He is dead, not in a swoon. But this blood which flowed from OUR PASSOVER LAMB speaks of JUSTIFICATION, and the water which flowed from OUR SMITTEN ROCK speaks of the SANCTIFI­CATION OF HIS CHURCH.

Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 19 October, 2025 A.D.

"Behold, he prayeth!"   -Acts 9:11 [KJV] In many trades, it is customary to shew samples or patterns. By these men judge of the goodness or quality of the whole. St. Paul sets himself forth as a sample, or pattern, of the free, distinguishing, sovereign, unmerited grace of God, that we should judge of its nature by its efficacy upon him. “I obtained mercy, for this cause, that in me first   (-a first rate sinner) Jesus Christ may shew forth His all long suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting”   (I Timothy 1:16.) Thou hast seen this pattern of free grace. What dost thou think of it?  The whole is alike with the pattern. It cometh alike upon elect sinners. It finds no more prerequisites, fitness, qualifications, or conditions in any, than it did in St. Paul. Whenever it takes place upon any, it produceth the same effects as it did in him. Helpful Article re: BE NOT CONFORMED

"...be not conformed to this world." -Romans 12:2 [KJV] In proportion as we are conformed to the spirit of this world our understanding becomes dull in the things of God, our affections cold and torpid, and our consciences less tender and sensitive. There is an eternal opposition between God and the world lying in wickedness.  In order, then, that our spiritual experience of the truth of God should maintain its ground, it must not be dulled and deadened by conformity to the world. It is like the sabre that the soldier carries into battle; it must not trail unsheathed upon the ground lest point and edge be dulled; both must be kept keen and sharp, that execution may be done upon the foe.
