Faith’s Vision is not Foggy!

Saving faith is not a quality within us that we rest upon. We are saved entirely by a finished work which is outside of and apart from us. Faith takes a hold of the fact that Christ has shed His blood and has gained our acceptance with God.  Faith takes hold of the good news that in our name and on our behalf, Jesus Christ has met and fulfilled every legal and righteous requirement needed to restore us to God. Faith declares that the Christ event is sufficient and complete and that nothing whatsoever can be added to or taken away from it.

That Jesus Christ alone saves is faith´s declaration. Christ Jesus is perfect and His work is complete (John 19:30). Salvation, however, is not a matter of Christ plus faith. This is where so many depart from clear Gospel thinking. They believe their faith has made them accepted to God. But faith never makes us accepted before God. We are only accepted in the acceptable One, Jesus Christ. We are accepted because of who He is and what He has done for us in His doing and dying.

Saving faith takes a hold of Jesus and His salvation and makes it our own. Faith grasps that our righteousness is not in ourselves but rather outside of us in Christ Jesus (I Peter 1:19; Ephesians 1:7). But faith does not bring salvation into existence, nor does it produce the righteousness by which God justifies us. It has rightly been observed, “Faith is a TAKER not a MAKER.” Faith takes something already in existence and makes it our own!

Faith is dynamic and continues to grow as it is bathed in the Gospel. Romans 10:16-17 says, “But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our report? So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Notice how the “WORD of GOD” and the “GOSPEL” are equated in this passage. They are one and the same! Faith will grow, therefore, when the Gospel is expounded! The preaching of the Finished Work always brings and generates faith.

When faith comes to our lives it agrees with God’s verdict that our human righteousness is no cleaner than a filthy rag (Isaiah 64:6). In the light of this truth, saving faith causes us to abandon all hope of ever being saved by our own actions and goodness.

What a wonderful gift of God faith really is as it enables us to take hold of the ‘so great salvation’ in Christ Jesus. The more we are bathed and washed in the Gospel the more we will realize that it is not because we have been born again or been filled with the Spirit that we are declared not guilty. Faith’s vision is not foggy! Faith sees clearly that we are not made accepted in heaven because of experiences we´ve had or because we are being good and are trying to be obedient to God: Rather, faith sees that Jesus Christ is superior to our faulty attempts at obedience and totally sufficient to satisfy all the demands of God’s holy and righteous character.

Faith generated by the Gospel actually reduces a person to nothing. It produces true humility in that it brings us to an end of ourselves. Faith will cause us to say that,

“Nothing in my hand I bring

Simply to Thy cross I cling,

Naked come to Thee for dress

Helpless look to Thee for Grace,

Foul I to the fountain fly,

Wash me Saviour or I die.”

And that´s the Gospel Truth!

Light Rising in the Darkness: Take Heart, friends...

THE GREAT TRUMPET BLAST ~ The Joyful Sound!

"The great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come, who were ready to perish." -Isaiah 27:13 [KJV] One trumpet has been blown, at the giving of the law, on mount Sinai: the voice of it sounded long, and waxed louder and louder. It made even Moses to fear and quake exceedingly, and all the people tremble.
