What Determines Moral Truth? Measued by GOSPEL TRUTH

I was reading an article on the internet last week that posed this question – “What
determines moral truth? Is it rooted in emotion, reason, tradition, or divine authority?”
Well, the only right answer to this question is that by divine authority, God alone determines moral truth

But ever since our fall in and by Adam, fallen, sinful human beings have rebelled against God’s sovereign right to determine moral truth and have aspired to determine truth for ourselves. This was shown in the Garden of Eden by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil – “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17).

That tree set forth God’s sovereign right as Creator and Lord to determine what is good and what is evil. When Adam ate of that forbidden fruit, he declared his independence from God and sought to set his own standard of good and evil. By this act of sin and rebellion, he brought the whole human race into a state of sin, depravity, and spiritual death. Men have since aspired to declare their independence from God and determine for themselves moral truth, good and evil. It can be summarized in a statement found in the book of Judges – “every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

Nowhere is man’s natural pride and rebellion seen than in his thoughts about God, salvation from sin, and issues of righteousness. It is seen in all false gospels of salvation
conditioned on the works and wills of sinners rather than salvation conditioned all on the Lord Jesus Christ
Who is the only Way, Truth, and Life without Whom and without Whose righteousness no one can come to God and be saved or accepted
(John 14:6). God has
determined to set forth and reveal HIS truth, the only truth, by His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Without Him, all that we think and do for salvation (justification, redemption, sanctification) is a lie. Christ said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32), and that is the truth as revealed in the glorious Person and finished work of Christ as The LORD our Righteousness. All truth in matters of salvation and righteousness must be measured by this Gospel truth.
