Clothed with Christ JESUS' Righteousness

 

Ye saints of God lift up your praise

And sing of sovereign love;

For lo, our names are written in,

The Book of Life above.

 

The Father chose our souls to save,

In everlasting grace;

And gave us to His precious Son,

Who came and took our place.

 

What wondrous and amazing love,

To suffer in our stead;

Christ put away our debt of sin,

THE WEDDING GARMENT

 

     “And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:  And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment?  And he was speechless.  Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  For many are called, but few are chosen.” -Matthew 22:11-14 [KJV]  

 

 

The wedding garment of Scripture, particularly spoke of in Matthew 22, hath been a subject of so much anxiety to many precious souls, that the matter itself ought to be put in the clearest light possible.  The general belief is, that by it is meant Christ’s person, work and righteousness.  And hence the church is represented as singing, “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord: my soul shall be joyful in my God, for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels” (Isaiah 61:10).  And this corresponds to what the Lord Jesus counseled the church of Laodicea to buy of Him, “white raiment, that she might be clothed” (Revelation 3:18). 

 

Hence, therefore, what is the garment, but Christ’s righteousness, in which all the faithful are clothed, when justified in the perfect salvation of the Lord?

Great Encouragement in Christ JESUS ~ 19 October, 2025 A.D.

"Behold, he prayeth!"   -Acts 9:11 [KJV] In many trades, it is customary to shew samples or patterns. By these men judge of the goodness or quality of the whole. St. Paul sets himself forth as a sample, or pattern, of the free, distinguishing, sovereign, unmerited grace of God, that we should judge of its nature by its efficacy upon him. “I obtained mercy, for this cause, that in me first   (-a first rate sinner) Jesus Christ may shew forth His all long suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting”   (I Timothy 1:16.) Thou hast seen this pattern of free grace. What dost thou think of it?  The whole is alike with the pattern. It cometh alike upon elect sinners. LORD JESUS, Be Merciful...

" LORD, be merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee." -Psalm 41:4 [KJV] Is this the language of the man after God’s own heart? Was David a saint when he uttered it? Yes, he was a holy man of God. This confession and prayer shew it. His heart was not hardened through the deceitfulness of sin, nor blinded by self-righteous pride, so as to say, “I have no sin.”   Self-righteous hearts cannot away with this, that all the Lord’s saints are yet in themselves miserable sinners; that they daily see need to confess this; and to sue for mercy and healing from the Lord.
