Weekend Gospel message to follow for All Hands (31DEC21-02JAN22)
Heads-Up --- Please find enclosed encouragement in SO GREAT SALVATION by the perfect and finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy and wretched sinners by His sovereign free grace -God's unmerited favor- from our sins and from Hell:
ARE YOU SEEKING ASSURANCE?
There are many believers who seem to have a lack of assurance regarding their eternal safety and salvation in Christ. Our confidence must be drawn from the Word which declares the putting away of sin and the satisfaction of divine justice by the death of Christ who declared with His dying breath, “It is finished!” The Scripture declares that he who “believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3:36). There is no formula to help attain a peaceful confidence of security in the Savior, but perhaps a few questions, founded upon the Word of God, will help in your search. Does the preaching of the eternal purpose of God to save a people in Christ thrill your soul?
When you hear of the everlasting covenant of grace, that covenant of which David wrote on his death-bed, does it cause your heart to rejoice that all of your salvation, from start to finish, is of the Lord? Hear the words of David concerning that covenant: “this is all my salvation and all my desire” (2 Samuel 23:5). Would you say “Amen” to his words? When the glad tidings of the person and redemptive work of Christ are proclaimed, are you blessed to understand the glorious message of how God can be just and justify a sinner like you through the doing and dying of this Redeemer? Do you have the same sort of reaction to this understanding of God-given truth as the two disciples in Luke 24:32? “Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He OPENED TO US THE SCRIPTURES?”
To hear of Christ’s glorious person, His bloody sacrifice, triumphant resurrection, the forgiveness of sins and the bringing in of everlasting righteousness by His sacrificial death, do those truths set your soul aflame with praise and thanksgiving to the God of all grace? I understand that we must not base our confidence of eternal safety upon our feelings, but it is a fact that true believers have great joy and peace in the heart when we hear the Word of the Lord and are again confronted with the sweet message of Christ and Him crucified. To hear repeatedly of the Father’s loving choice of a people unto salvation, the substitutionary sacrifice and triumphant resurrection of the Savior and the quickening power of the Holy Spirit that enables a sinner to believe on Christ, these good news truths make my heart merry! The gospel never grows old to the people of God.
I mention these things because it is certain that when the Holy Spirit works within the people of the Lord, He makes them want to be under the sound of the gospel of grace and they will be joyful in this glorious message of salvation in Christ alone! Permit me to ask one last question. Would you love to be in an environment where sin exists no more in you (or anywhere else), where God alone is glorified and where every voice is tuned to sing the praises of the Lamb of God? If so, though I cannot give you confidence of eternal life, it is nevertheless a fact that a sinner saved by grace loves to hear the gospel and looks forward to that eternal day of worship when we shall enter into the glories of paradise and abide in the presence of our Savior forever and forever.
