The joy of an Everlasting Salvation
What
grace it is when sinful creatures of time are brought by God's grace
and Spirit to rejoice in eternal things. To rejoice in the eternal
God! What rejoicing is theirs when they are made to hear the good
news of the gospel in Christ: “The eternal God is thy refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms: and He
shall thrust out the enemy from before thee....”
(Deuteronomy
33:27).
Jehovah-Jesus
is none other than the everlasting God in flesh. The Psalmist
declares, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever
Thou hadst formed the earth and the
world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou
art God” (Psalm
90:2). His covenant of grace and mercy in Christ, being
ordered in all things and sure, all the salvation of His people, is
the “everlasting covenant.” For this reason, His
gospel is called the “everlasting gospel.” There is
nothing new with Him but it comes as news to His chosen people.
That
redemption which is in Him and accomplished by His sacrifice of blood
is therefore an “eternal redemption.” The life
which He gives as a gift to sinners is thus “eternal life.”
Think about it, all He gives us in Himself has no beginning or end.
It is not temporary or merely a gift confined to time but an
everlasting salvation. Praise be to His name for that wonderful
promise: “But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an
everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world
without end” (Isaiah
45:17). This is the salvation of the eternal God. This is the
salvation set forth in His word and revealed by His Spirit. This is
the salvation I want, an everlasting salvation. A salvation in One
outside myself. One who changes not, being the same yesterday, today
and forever.
We
shall never be lost, never lose any part of or find temporary, this
everlasting salvation. All blessings given in Christ Jesus are for an
“everlasting possession.” His priesthood is an
everlasting priesthood and His intercession for us the same. “For
the LORD is good; His mercy is
everlasting; and His truth endureth to
all generations” (Psalm
100:5). Since He brought in “everlasting
righteousness,” the righteous (those
made righteous in Him by His righteousness imputed to them) shall be
in everlasting remembrance! Thus, His will be praise will be
everlasting praise! “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from
everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise
ye the LORD” (Psalm
106:48).
