Rest in Him Who surrounds you with His presence. “ Wait patiently for Him , ” because time is nothing to the Lord, therefore let it be of no consequence to you. When we read a story, we wait for the end to clear up the plot. Be patient, the Lord has ordained the end from the beginning and like the hymn writer said, “In heaven’s clearer light I’ll see, all things worked out for good!” As He goes before you to lead the way so goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. You say your troubles are mighty, but is not your Savior the Almighty God? Do not allow your heart to be agitated by difficult circumstances. Are they not meted out and controlled by your infinitely wise Lord? It is true that “ the wicked are like the troubled sea that cannot rest,” but you aren’t wicked, you are righteous in the Lord...

The judges (for they were rather judges than jury) did not give their verdict upon the prisoner by oral testimony, "guilty," or "not guilty," as in our country, but by dropping into an urn a white stone to express their opinion that the prisoner was innocent, or a black stone to declare their judgment that the prisoner was guilty. God could have destroyed you if He had pleased — it is entirely of His own good pleasure that you are made one of His beloved children, while others are allowed to perish. Consider, then, how much you owe to His sovereignty! If He had willed it — you would have been among the damned! If He had not willed your salvation — then all you could do would have been utterly powerless to deliver yourself from perdition! "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna." -R EVELATION 2:17 [KJV] How often God's word is to you a sealed book; how often you hear from the pulpit the most encouraging preaching, yet get no encouragement from it; how often you hear Christ held forth in His Person, blood and righteousness, and go away as you came, without any sensible relief. What is the reason? Because you are overcome. Unbelief, bondage, darkness of mind, insensibility rest upon your spirit, and all these keep you from feeding upon the manna. Man’s entire apostasy and death in sin, so that he cannot save himself; and God’s entire supremacy, so that He saves whom He will; are doctrines exceedingly distasteful to human pride.
