In spite of what false religion says in our day, Christ and His word still say, "All things are delivered unto Me of My Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and h e to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him" (Matthew 11:27) . No man can by searching find out God, God must reveal Himself to us and in us. This He does to His people through the word of the truth of the gospel and by His Holy Spirit. He does this, as Paul says, when it pleases Him to do so. He cannot be hurried, and His hand cannot be stayed. Paul’s description of his own experience is the same with all that God saves: "But when it pleased God, Who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood" (Galatians 1:15-16) . This is the way to receive the gospel: not as a thing of shreds and patches, a mere collection or scheme of certain doctrines floating up and down God's word, as waifs and strays from a stranded ship; but as one harmonious gospel, full of grace, mercy, and truth, impregnated with divine blessedness, and all connected with, all springing out of, the Person of the God-man. It is true that “in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established” (Matthew 18:6) . Yet, if ten million agree on something that is not to be found in the holy scriptures or contrary to them, their agreement does not make it true or right. Men find security and confirmation in the agreement of others with them. They have little “mutual admiration societies” in which they praise each other, hold others in contempt and believe themselves to be the only ones that are right. This was the way of the Pharisees that Christ publicly rebuked with scathing words. Nothing in all the world is more foolish, more debasing to humanity, more dishonoring to God, and more assuredly condemning to the souls of men and women than idolatry. Without question, idolatry takes many forms , from the worship of false gods, to the use of images in the worship of God (Ex odus 32:4-5) , to the making of imaginary images and pictures of angels, saints, or Jesus (Ex odus 20:4) , to the placing of spiritual value upon religious relics (II Kings 18:4) , to the wearing of crosses for jewelry, to covetousness. However, the most subtle and abominable form of idolatry in the world is that which Paul calls "WILL WORSHIP" , the worship of one's self, attributing to self the work of God (see Col ossians 2:23) .
