Spiritual Rest

“ Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Jesus Christ, “The LORD our righteousness” as per Matthew 11:28 [KJV] What is the nature of this rest Christ gives to all who come to Him? The Greek word expresses something more than rest, or a mere relaxation from toil; it denotes refreshment likewise. A person weary with long bearing a heavy burden will need not only to have it removed, but likewise he wants food and refreshment to restore his spirit and to repair his wasted strength. Such is the rest of the Gospel. It not only puts a period to our fruitless labor, but it affords a sweet reviving cordial. There is not only peace, but joy in believing. - Gospel report by preacher John Newton

Do You Hear God's Word?

Christ said to the religious Jews in His day, “ He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God” ( John 8:47 ). That men will hear men there can be no doubt. They will receive the witness of men. But no man apart from the grace of God will hear GOD. Unless we are chosen of God, redeemed of God and quickened by the Spirit we cannot and will not hear God. To hear God we must “hear God’s words..” The truth is, a man may speak the truth but we only believe what we know to be true from God’s words. We only believe God when we have seen it for ourselves in His word! That’s why so many people are deceived, they receive the witness of men, of preachers often times who do not speak according to God’s words . God’s preacher wants people to see if they are telling the truth by checking them in God’s word. The Bereans were said to be “noble” because they searched the scriptures to see if the things Paul said was true ( Acts 17:10-11...

Good Works

“ This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works . These things are good and profitable unto men.” -Titus 3:8 [KJV] There is often a disagreement among men about “good works.” Some saying that there is no such thing and others emphasizing or over-emphasizing them. What are we to think? We are to believe what God says about them. First, God says we are to “ be careful to maintain good works.” A good work has to have certain characteristics. It is not good if it is trusted in as a part of our justification before God , such are evil works. “ Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to H is mercy H e saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” ( Titus 3: 5 ). No unbeliever does good works because good works rise out of heartfelt thanks for God saving us by grace in Christ alone. Then, all good work...

Christ is All!

“ Looking at my sin, I see Christ as my atonement and only Christ. Looking at God's law, I see Christ as my righteousness, my only righteousness. I'm not making up what I can't provide; He is my only righteousness. Looking at God's justice, He is my justification. Looking at death, He is my life. Looking at the grave, He is my resurrection. Looking at eternity, He is my hope.” - Gospel report by preacher Henry Mahan

Give God the Glory

The Lord is Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is eternal, without beginning or ending. “ From everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God” ( Psalm 90:2 ). His Name is “ Holy and Reverend” ( Psalm 111:9c ) and He dwells “ in the light which no man can approach unto” ( 1 Tim othy 6:16 ). None can comprehend or describe His immaculate, incomprehensible glory. The Lord is completely removed from all defect and fault. His strength knows no weakness and His power has no boundary. He is the infinite God, full of knowledge, wisdom, goodness and mercy. He is distinguished by His unchangeable perfections and attributes. His Being is underived; His decrees are eternal; His will is sovereign; His freedom is absolute; His control is limitless; His throne is secure; His government is universal; His knowledge extends to all things and His ways are past finding out. His purity cannot be tarnished; His will cannot be resisted; His serenity cannot be disturbed; His kingdom cannot be overco...

Jesus Christ the Righteous - Full-time Advocate

“ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous ” - I John 2:1 [KJV] This Scripture encourages the believer to trust and hope in the mercy of God AT ALL TIMES! It does not say, “If any man is holy, prayerful, and always faithful, he has an Advocate;” but it says, “ If any man SIN, w e has an Advocate with the Father.” It does not say, “If any man sins he forfeits his right to Christ’s advocacy.” Grace that can be forfeited because of human failure is not grace at all. Mercy that is conditioned upon the merit of the creature is not mercy at all. If my title to glory rests upon my works, either BEFORE OR AFTER conversion, it is a total failure. This scripture declares that at all times, under all circumstances, Jesus Christ is our Righteousness, our Sanctification, our Advocate, and our Redemption. So when I sin, when I consider my past or present an...

The Tender Mercy of our God

"Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." - Luke 1:78, 79 There is a way of peace, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. For He is "our peace," and "the way," and therefore the way of peace. He has made peace through the blood of H is cross ( Col ossians 1:20 ), having slain the enmity thereby, and came and preached peace to them which were afar off, "sitting in darkness and the shadow of death," and to them that were nigh ( Eph esians 2:16, 17 ). The dayspring, then, breaking in upon the soul, shines upon the way of peace, and guides the feet into it. The light shines upon the way lined with blood, the way of salvation through the finished work, atoning blood, and meritorious sufferings of the Son of God. As, then, the light shines upon the way, and it is seen as a way of pea...
