"For T hou hast magnified T hy word above all T hy name." - PSALM 138:2 [KJV] This is one of those expressions in Scripture that seem so comprehensive, and yet so amazing. To my mind it is one of the most remarkable expressions in the whole book of God. "Thou hast magnified T hy word above all T hy name." The name of God includes all the perfections of God; everything that God is, and that God is revealed as possessing. His justice, majesty, holiness, greatness, and glory, and whatever He is in Himself; that is God's name. And yet He has magnified something above all His name; His word, His truth. This may refer to the Incarnate Word, the Son of God, Who is called the Word. "There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one" [I JOHN 5:7 ] . "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God" [JOHN 1:1 ] . You may take the words either as meaning that...

Ah! but for free and sovereign grace, I still had lived estranged from God, Till hell had proved the resting place Of my deserved, but dread abode. But O, amazed, I see the hand That stopped me in my wild career; A miracle of grace I stand; The Lord has taught my heart to fear. -Words by Henry Paice, 18th century

"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah" - JEREMIAH 31:31-33 [KJV] The promises of the covenant of grace are sure, everlasting and ordered in all things to God's spiritual family [II SAMUEL 23:5; H EBREWS 7:22; R OMANS 4:16 ] . 1) . I will make and establish a new covenant; "I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah." This covenant is called new, not because it is newly conceived, but rather because it is newly revealed in the gospel of Christ . It is always new and fresh, it will never grow old nor give way to another [ H EBREWS 13:20 ] . It provides all things new; new spiritual life [JOHN 10:27-30 ] , new spiritual nature [II CORINTHIANS 5:17 ] , new spiritual heart [EZEKIEL 36:26 ] , new spiritual name [REVELATION 2:17 ] , new song of redemption in the heart [REVELATION 1:5 ] . All of this will enable us...
Rest

Rest is a sweet word to the weary soul; all seek it but only believers find it. Paul wrote, “We which have believed do enter into REST” [ H EBREWS 4:3 ] . He did not say we shall enter but we DO enter into rest. There is a sweet repose, a calm peace, and a sweet rest in Christ. We can trust Him to forgive the past, provide for the present, and guarantee the future. If you can believe God, you will find in Christ all you need . -Gospel report by preacher Henry T. "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." -E ZEKIEL 36:26 [KJV] This "new spirit" is a broken spirit, a soft, tender spirit, and is therefore called "a heart of flesh," as opposed to "the heart of stone," the rocky, obdurate, unfeeling, impenitent heart of one dead in sin, or dead in a profession. And how is this soft, penitent heart communicated? "I will put my Spirit within you." The same divine truth is set forth in the gracious promise: "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications; and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn." But what is the im...

“ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the L ORD .” - PROVERBS 16:33 [KJV] Is it not wonderfully settling to the heart of a redeemed and regenerated sinner to know that our God does all things well? We plan according to the way we think things should or ought to be, but He Who rules in heaven and earth is the Determiner and Director of all things. As we consider the way that our precious Lord and God has been pleased to move in our midst, may we be reminder that He, “worketh all things after the counsel of His own will,” and that as we behold His gracious hand of providence… ”We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” If we could see the end, as He sees, we would never doubt, question, or complain. -Gospel report by preacher Marvin Stalnaker Katy Baptist church of Fairmont, West Virginia USA Please fi...
