Omnipotence, Ascribed unto Jesus
by D.G. Miles McKee
“He conquered the grave and now lives above,
All praise to His name, all power and love.
Made righteous in Jesus we someday shall rise,
To dwell with our Savior above earth and skies.”
Revelation 5:6 “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”
Note the number 7 in this verse. As you know, 7 is the number of divine perfection. Notice how this divine perfection is the possession of the Lamb.
Observe how the Lamb had seven horns. The horn was a symbol of authority and strength and being that there are seven horns we are being pointed to the perfect power and omnipotence of the Lord Jesus. Christ is omnipotent and is, therefore, God! Only He Who is omnipotent can employ omnipotence.
Here in Revelation chapter 5, Jesus appears as the divine Champion; the only one found, in the entire universe, worthy and able to open the seven-sealed book. He is the lion and the lamb, the crucified one the King and the omnipotent one. This omnipotence comes as no surprise because if Christ had not been omnipotent, He could not have created the universe (John 1:3). Indeed, while He was on earth, He continued to demonstrate His omnipotence by taking authority over, death, demons, sickness, storms at sea and storms in the human condition. Moreover, after His ascension into heaven, He unrelentingly demonstrated His omnipotence through the ministry of His disciples. After a miraculous healing, Peter was quick to say, And His name through faith in His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yea, the faith which is by Him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 3:16
In Revelation 3:7 we see a further declaration of Christ’s omnipotence. We read, “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith He that is holy, He that is true, He that has the key of David, He that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;”
To have the key to both open and shut is the role of one having both power and authority. Jesus has full administrative authority over everything pertaining to God. He can distribute or not distribute God's resources according to His will. He is Omnipotent! This truth is a wonderful comfort for His followers, those who have entrusted the keeping of their souls unto Him.
“Say not my soul, ‘From whence
Can God relieve my care?’
Remember that Omnipotence
Has servants everywhere.
His method seldom guessed;
Delay will make our pleasure pure,
Surprise will give it zest.
His heart profoundly kind;
God never is before His time,
And never is behind.”
And that’s the Gospel Truth! Til He Comes...
