The Wednesday Word

 Refreshment in the Gospel.

by D.G. Miles McKee

One of the wonderful qualities of the gospel is that it brings refreshment to the believers who listen.  My friend Daniel E Parks of Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands wrote the following very refreshing piece saying,

“Jesus Christ possessed both the divine and the human natures. His divine nature is inherent to Him, for He is expressly declared to be God from eternity. His human nature was assumed by Him when “God was manifested in the flesh.” Jesus Christ is, therefore, the one and only God-Man.

“We find many proofs of both the divine and the human natures in Jesus Christ, God manifested in the flesh. For example:

Jesus’ hands were human hands, but they had divine ability. He could touch lepers and not become unclean (Matthew 8:3). He could with but His touch cure people of fever (Matthew 8:15), restore sight to the blind (Matthew 20:34; Mark 8:22-25), and restore an ear that had been cut off (Luke 22:50f). He could break a few pieces of bread and fish into enough pieces to feed thousands of people until they were full – and have much food remaining afterward (Matthew 14:13-21; 15:32-39).

Jesus’ feet were human feet, but they had the divine ability to walk on the sea even during a terrible storm (Matthew 14:25).

Jesus’ eyes were human eyes, but they had divine ability. He had the omnipresent ability to see a man in a far-off place sitting under a fig tree (John 1:48). He had the omniscient ability to look into men’s hearts and know their thoughts (Matthew 9:4; Luke 5:22; John 2:25), and to see and know everything a woman had ever done before the first time He ever saw her (John 4:7-29).

Jesus’ ears were human ears, but they had the divine ability to hear others having private conversations (Mark 8:14-17), and to hear the prayers of His people from far-away places, and to hear the cries of His lost sheep desiring to be found.

Jesus’ mouth was a human mouth, but it had the divine and omnipotent ability. Through the power of His words: a sinner was forgiven of his sins – a deed which only God can do! (Matthew 9:2); a bed-ridden paralytic rose up and walked (Matthew 9:2-8); a leper was cleansed and healed (Mark 1:41); a deaf and speech-impaired man both heard and spoke well (Mark 7:31-35); demons were driven from those whom they had possessed and oppressed (Matthew 8:28-32); dead people were restored to life (Luke 7:12-15; 8:49-55).

“Jesus’ body was a human body, but divine power was in it. For many were healed of their infirmities by merely touching Him or His garment (Mark 6:56; Luke 6:19; et.al.). And from Jesus’ human body flowed “God’s own blood” with which God’s church was purchased (Acts 20:28).

“Truly in Jesus Christ “God was manifested in the flesh.”
Believers in God believe this truth.”

All I can possibly add to this is to say,
“Hallelujah!”

And that’s the Gospel Truth!
