The Wednesday Word
THE AMAZING BLOOD OF JESUS, Part 1
by D.G. Miles McKee1 Peter 1:18-19, “Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
One of the most important things we can come to grips with is to understand the value of the blood of Jesus. The Blood of Jesus has removed all our sins. It is, therefore, not only priceless but also powerful.
But what is it that gives the blood its power and value? I´ll tell you what it is … it is because of whose blood it is! The blood of Jesus is the blood of the God/Man … He who is fully God and fully Man.
Christ’s blood would not have been effective if He had only been God. Why? Because God cannot die!
On the other hand, had He merely been a man His death would not have been successful. The death of one man, no matter how good a man, couldn't save a multitude that no one can number. But being that Jesus was both God and Man we have an authoritative and fully effective atonement.
As a sinless man, Jesus offered Himself as our Substitute. As God, He gave His power to ransom, save and deliver all who believe and rest on Him. But let me say it again, it is not the blood in and of itself that is the important part of our salvation. It is that it is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, the God/Man. It is who Christ Jesus is that gives the blood its authority.
Notice, in our text (1 Peter 1:18-19) we are told that we have been redeemed. To be redeemed means that we have been purchased. This idea of Redemption runs through the Bible. It even comes from the lips of the Master. Consider Mark 10:45 where he says He came to give His life a ransom for many.
Then in 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 Paul, talking to believers, says, “You are not your own you are bought with a price.” This means that the child of God belongs to the Lord by right of purchase. That means forever!
Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:7, “In whom (Christ) we have redemption through His blood.” That means, no one was able to outbid the Lord for us … there was too much value and worth in the precious blood of Jesus.
Here’s some more good news. He purchased us and we will never be offered for re-sale! If you have been bought by the Lord Jesus, then you are not your own. You belong entirely to Him. Jesus has bought and paid for every believer by precious blood.
The blood is God´s currency for redemption. Silver and gold is the world´s currency. But there wasn´t enough silver and gold in the universe to buy us back. Only the blood of Jesus could make that purchase.
Hell has no power or weapon to resist the precious blood of Jesus. You may feel that Satan has you in his grip. But if you flee to the refuge of Jesus, no power of Hell can stop or enslave you.
“Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child, and forever, I am.”
And that’s the Gospel Truth!
