The Wednesday Word ~ "Christ our Redemption"

CHRIST OUR REDEMPTION

by D. G. Miles McKee

We are not redeemed because we felt or experienced something. No indeed! We are redeemed because the Lord Christ bought and paid for us with His own blood some 2000 years ago. We are His purchased possession. He owns us. We have been bought with a price [I Corinthians 6:20]. In other words, we have been redeemed. Is it any wonder then that the hymn writer can declare;

“Redeemed how I love to proclaim it,
Redeemed by the blood of the
Lamb:
Redeemed by
His infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.

Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child and forever I am.”

Romans 3:24 informs us that our redemption is
in Christ Jesus. This means that Jesus didn’t come merely to pay the ransom, He came to be the ransom. He came to be our redemption. That´s why, in Ephesians 1:7 we read, In whom we have redemption through His blood …” We also see in 1 Corinthians 1:30, “Christ is made unto us … Redemption.”

These are potent scriptures for again they tell us that we have redemption, not because we have had an experience, but because we have a Redeemer who gave Himself as an acceptable sacrifice in our stead. Our Redemption, in reality, is objectively found in Christ. Christ became our redemption when He sacrificed Himself, took our sins and paid our ransom with His blood.

Let´s say it again, He (the Lord Jesus) is our ransom and our redemption. Redemption does not depend upon what we have done or upon what we feel. The weakest believer can now look to the Christ of the cross and see that their redemption has been accomplished and is secure. If their redemption is secure, they are safe.

We, as God’s people, can cease from never-ending, carnal and foolish efforts to establish our own righteousness before God. The Holy Judge of all the earth continually looks on the person of His Beloved Son and is well pleased. Christ is now appearing before the Throne as our mediator who purchased His people with His own blood
[see Hebrews 9:15; Hebrews 12:24; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6].

Adolph Saphir in his usual wisdom reminds us concerning Christ;
“God has only one purpose; to manifest Himself, to show forth His glory, to reveal His perfections and to show them forth in His only-begotten and well-beloved Son, and in Him as in Jesus Christ crucified. The Lamb was slain, the apostle Peter tells us before the foundation of the world. Redemption is no afterthought in God; it is His first thought; and according to the Lamb that was slain, all things were made. He is the centre of creation; He is the centre of history or providence; He is the centre of redemption; He is the centre of glory. Christ was the Alpha in the mind of God as well as the Omega." -Adolph Saphir: Christ Crucified: Lectures on 1 Corinthians; Chapter 4, In Christ Jesus Crucified Meet Two Eternities.

And that´s the Gospel Truth!
