Predestination Purposed the Bruising of Christ
“Yet
it pleased the LORD
to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His
soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His
days, and the pleasure of the LORD
shall prosper in His hand. He shall see of the travail of His soul,
and shall be satisfied…”
-ISAIAH
53:10-11a [KJV]
God’s prophet accurately foretold of Christ over seven hundred years before His incarnation, obedience, suffering and justifying death. In the everlasting councils of the Godhead it was determined a limited and definite number of fallen man would be redeemed. And, it was determined that redemption would be effectuated by the suffering of the God-Man unto death. Christ agreed to fill that place, satisfy justice and be the Substitute for the chosen ones. Consider:
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him - Before us is God’s will and predestination. The bruising of Christ was not God’s callous delight but the fulfillment of His gracious purpose. It was prophesied that He would have His heel bruised by the serpent (Gen 3:15). Yet, here it’s attributed to the LORD. This shows His perfect hatred of sin and His infinite love for His elect.
Before we were sinners, God purposed our Savior.
Before we went astray, God purposed our Shepherd.
Before we fell in Adam, God purposed our Last Adam.
Before we broke God’s law, God purposed our Righteousness.
Before we were in bondage, God purposed our Ransom.
Before we were corrupted, God purposed our Cleansing.
Before we incurred sin’s debt, God purposed our Surety.
Before we were in darkness, God purposed our Light.
Before we were lost, God purposed our Way.
Before we erred, God purposed our Truth.
Before we died, God purposed our Life.
Before we were condemned, God purposed our Justification.
