LORD, DELIVER US!



"...and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished." -II PETER 2:7-9 [KJV]
 

Almost daily in this life the Lord’s people are drawn into situations that they find very uncomfortable. Like Lot of old, they are “vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked.” The thing that vexed “righteous” Lot most was undoubtedly the false religion that characterized Sodom and its consequences. He was disturbed by what he saw and heard. False religion had brought about the abandonment of the true God and Sodom was therefore abandoned by God who gave the inhabitants over to a reprobate mind. Sodom’s immorality, just like today’s immorality, was a result of Godless religion. This is the very thing that Paul states in Romans 1.

We hate this immorality but we hate its cause even more! The name of God is blasphemed, Christ dishonored and His gospel despised by religious people around us which grieves us greatly! As we live in this world let us remember something also. The Lord delivered Lot and He will deliver us. Lot was righteous in the only way a sinner can be, he was made the righteousness of God in Christ and so are we. God also dealt in strict justice with the unbelieving world of his day and He will do also with ours. May God also help us to remember also that, were it not for His grace and mercy to us in Christ, we would still be a part of this world! As He did Lot, God has and will deliver all His people!
