LOOKING UNTO JESUS!
"David
was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because
the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and
for his daughters: but
David encouraged himself in the LORD
his God."
-I SAMUEL
30:6 [KJV]
David
found himself in a very discouraging situation. Ziklag had been
burned with fire, the families of David and his army had been taken
captive, his men were ready to stone him to death. How could David
find any encouragement in this situation? He took his eyes off the
situation and fixed his heart and faith upon the Lord his God. Who is
all our comfort in times of trial and heartache? The Lord our God!
When we look within we find nothing but sin, doubt and
discouragement. But when we are blessed with eyes of faith to behold
Him, who is the Lord our God, sovereign, wise, and able to do above
all we ask or think [EPHESIANS
3:20] then we
have every reason to be encouraged in the Lord our God. Our Lord
says, "Look unto Me, and be ye
saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none
else" [ISAIAH
45:22]. What a
word of encouragement! David encouraged himself by the very means God
ordained, His word of truth [PSALM
115:1-4; 121; 135:1-6].
God help us to do the same [PSALM
55:22]!
