CHRIST ALONE is all we need
Saving grace how sweet the sound,
Where shall praise enough be found;
Praise to tell what God has done,
Praise to honor Christ the Son?
Chosen by God’s sovereign grace,
Members of a ransomed race;
What a wondrous, gracious plan,
God would raise up fallen man.
Lo! In time the Savior came,
Friend of sinners - what a Name;
He the woman’s promised Seed,
Jesus meets our ev’ry need.
He who knew no sinfulness,
Charged with our own wretchedness;
Died upon the cruel cross,
Saving us from endless loss.
By His blood we are forgiv’n,
Jesus makes us fit for heav’n;
His the righteousness we plead,
Christ alone is all we need.
Praise the Lamb who reigns on high,
All our hopes on Him rely;
By Him we are justified,
His great Name be magnified.

Lyrics by Jim Byrd
“For
Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and
plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee”
-Psalm 86:5 [KJV]
It
is delightful to speak about the mercy of God, but always be mindful
that forgiveness and salvation for the sinful cannot come to sinners
apart from consideration of the legal requirements of God. “The
soul that sinneth shall die.”
The righteous Judge
cannot clear the guilty without satisfaction for sin. The sweet mercy
of the Lord will never be exercised at the expense of His justice.
His violated law demands death for all transgressions. God cannot be
at peace with sinful men in a way that is dishonoring to His truth
and righteousness. His only begotten Son has rendered to Him the
required price for the redemption for His chosen people. His precious
blood has been shed so that God can be a just God and a Savior. The
sacrifice of the good Shepherd to divine justice on the behalf of His
sheep was the price that forevermore silenced divine vengeance,
exhausted the wrath of God and, when revealed and applied to them by
the Holy Spirit to a sinner’s heart, speaks peace to the troubled
conscience telling them all is well with a holy God. “Mercy
and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each
other” (Psalm
85:10).
