Weekend Gospel message to follow for All Hands (06-08JAN23 A.D.)

Heads-Up --- Please find enclosed encouragement in SO GREAT SALVATION by the perfect and finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy and wretched sinners by His sovereign free grace -Almighty God's unmerited favor- from our sins and from Hell:

SEVEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS

-1- Why do people die? The one-word answer is SIN. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). The fact that the body dies is evidence of our sinfulness.

-2- Is death the end of our existence? The body is the tabernacle in which the soul resides; we are a soul, and we have a body. When the soul leaves, the body dies, but the soul lives on. The Bible speaks of men like Jacob who “yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto His people” (Genesis 49:33); his soul left his body to join the people of God in glory. Both the rich man and Lazarus died, but their existence continued, one in hell, the other in Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22-23).

-3- What happens to the soul at death? “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God Who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7). The Lord then executes the just sentence, either welcoming the saved sinner into everlasting paradise, or committing the unbelieving sinner to everlasting separation from Christ in hell (see Luke 16:23).

-4- Where do the souls of believers go? The spirits or souls of just men made perfect in Christ enter into heaven, also called paradise. That is where the believing thief went (see Luke 23:43). Our Lord spoke of this place and called it “My Father’s house” (John 14:2). Heaven is where Christ is, and all who fall asleep in Jesus go to be with Him when they leave this world (2 Corinthians 5:8).

-5- Why do believers go to be with Christ when they leave this world? [1] It is because we were chosen to salvation (2 Thessalonians 2:13; Ephesians 1:3-5). The elect of God are referred to as His sheep, His people, His church, His bride and His loved ones. [2] It is because Christ took our place, died for our sins and paid our debt of sin in full. Christ is the Good Shepherd Who came into this world to lay down His life to save His sheep (John 10:11). “By the obedience of One shall many be made righteous” (Romans 5:19). “Thou shalt call His Name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). [3] It is because the Holy Spirit quickens spiritually dead sinners, granting repentance toward God and faith in Christ. The work of the Spirit is accomplished in the hearts of those chosen to salvation and redeemed by the blood of Christ. Since Christ’s blood washed our sins away and justified us by the grace of God, the Holy Spirit convinces us to believe on the Name of the Son of God Who loved us and gave Himself for us.

-6- What are believers in heaven doing right now? They are worshiping the Lord in spirit and in truth and singing of that redemption and salvation accomplished by the Lamb of God. Thou hast “redeemed us to God by Thy blood.” “Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb” (Revelation 5:9; 7:10). Heaven is a place of worship, where sin’s effect is nonexistent and all the children of the Lord give honor, glory and praise to the Lord forevermore.

-7- Does death have the final word? Thank God, the answer is NO! There will be a glorious resurrection of our bodies when Christ returns and the souls of all the Lord’s people will be joined to their bodies, glorified by Him Who saved them by His grace. “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at His coming. Then cometh the end when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father” (1 Corinthians 15:22-24). “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law; But thanks be unto God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
