The Truth and Reality of Grace  The truth and reality of God’s free and sovereign grace that comes to sinners in and by the Lord Jesus Christ is most certainly and necessarily expressed in the revelation of Gospel doctrine from God’s holy and inspired Word.   There is no salvation for any sinner apart from God the Holy Spirit revealing the doctrine of God’s grace. This is the Gospel Word that is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who has been given faith to believe in Christ . The truth and reality of God’s grace is also expressed as a dynamic force in every true believer’s life as every believer is indwelt with the Spirit of power and has been given spiritual life, knowledge, and a love for Christ, His Word, and His people.  It is the power of God that sets the believer on the journey of faith, repentance, love, and perseverance wherein he is kept by the power of God unto final glory. This proceeds from carnal reason and ignorance of divine truths. “There is a God in heaven who reveals secrets” (Daniel 2:28.) The Scriptures are a revelation of the mind and will, council, decrees, and covenant purposes of the Lord. They contain things new and old. The new covenant of grace in Christ Jesus, as well as the old covenant of works with our first parent. Hence, it is the delight of God’s children to search the records of their heavenly Father.  To believe them in their hearts, is a certain evidence of their being His new-born sons and adopted children in Christ. Nor, indeed, need we wonder why there is such a marked revolution in our feelings toward it; for it is by the power of God's word upon the heart that this wondrous change is effected. "Of His own will begat He us with the word of truth" (James 1:18). Other books may instruct or amuse; they may feed the intellect, charm the imagination, and cultivate the mind. But what more can they do? I do not mean by this to despise or set aside every other book but the Bible, for without books society itself, as at present constituted, could not exist; and to burn every book would be to throw us back into the barbarism of the Middle Ages.
