God With Us , Part I by D. G. Miles Mckee   “Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail the Incarnate Deity, Pleased as man with man to dwell; Jesus, our Emmanuel.”   “And they shall call His name Emmanuel which being interpreted is God with us.” -Matthew 1:23   Christ´s name is Emmanuel which means God with us .  Even a blind man on a galloping horse can see that this verse tells us that Jesus Christ is God.  Two important truths can be learned from this scripture.  First, Jesus is God and second, as God, He is with us. He is to be called Emmanuel, a Hebrew name which when translated means “God with us.”  He is God with and amongst us; He is God as one of us; He is God, as a human, involved with humanity.   Jesus was and is truly God.  It would indeed be impossible for Jesus our Emmanuel not to be God for His name is a revelation of His omnipresence … He is with us. Recently we touched on this matter of His omnipresence, but...

LORD JESUS, Be Merciful...

" LORD, be merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee." -Psalm 41:4 [KJV] Is this the language of the man after God’s own heart? Was David a saint when he uttered it? Yes, he was a holy man of God. This confession and prayer shew it. His heart was not hardened through the deceitfulness of sin, nor blinded by self-righteous pride, so as to say, “I have no sin.”   Self-righteous hearts cannot away with this, that all the Lord’s saints are yet in themselves miserable sinners; that they daily see need to confess this; and to sue for mercy and healing from the Lord. Here is a confession, a plea, and a prayer.  (1st.) A confession, “I have sinned against Thee.” Thus we must come and confess to the Lord to-day, to-morrow, and every day, till the sun of life sets. Sense of sin, whether fresh contracted, or long since committed, abides with us. It wounds and pains a gracious soul. Here grace discovers itself. That soul waits not for time to efface the m...

Our LORD JESUS' Gracious Commands to His people

"Awake, O north wind, and come, thou south; blow upon My garden." -Song of Solomon 4:16 [KJV] Are these the words of my Lord? Yes, surely, they can be no other; for none but Jesus can send the Holy Ghost to His church and people. And besides, none can call the church "My garden," but He that is the rightful owner of it.  Surely, Lord, it is Thine, both by Thy Father's gift, and by Thy choice, and by Thy purchase, and by the conquests of Thy grace, and by the voluntary surrender of Thy people, when Thou hast made them willing in the day of Thy power (Psalm 110:3.)   And dost Thou call then, both the north wind and the south, Thou dearest Lord, to blow upon my soul? Dost Thou command all suited influences of Thy grace to visit me, that one may search, and another warm my affections, and call Thine own gifts and graces forth in exercise, upon Thy glorious Person, and Thy glorious work? Oh come then, Thou Holy Spirit, with all Thy sweet and precious o...

What is it to Come Short of the Glory of God?

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." -Romans 3:23 [KJV] What is it to "come short of the glory of God?" It is to act without a view to His glory. Now everything that we have ever done, which has not been done with a single eye to God's glory, has the brand of sin stamped on it. But who in an unregenerate state, who, as the fallen son of a fallen parent, ever had an eye to the glory of God? Did such a thing ever enter into man's natural heart as to speak to God's glory, act to His glory, consult His glory, and live to His glory?  Before ever such a thought, such a desire can cross our breast, we must have seen Him Who is invisible; we must have had a view by faith of the glory of the Three-One God; we must have had a single eye given us by the Holy Ghost to see that glory outshining all creature good. Every movement, then, of the selfish heart, every desire to gratify, please and exalt self, is a coming short of the gl...
