The Gospel and Authentic  New Testament Ministry , Part IV by D G Miles McKee   “ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: --- For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God .” -see I Corinthians 1:17-18   Paul equates the preaching the Gospel with the preaching of the cross of Christ. They are one and the same. This is the heart of New Testament power ministry! “But” says someone, “we must have Holy Ghost power to have an authentic New Testament ministry. “Indeed, we do! Who’s arguing? However, today we often encounter a silly passion which chases supposed spiritual power in all the wrong places. The truth is, we don’t have to run all over the place chasing after spiritual power. New Testament, spirit filled power, is already centred in Christ and His finished work.   According to scripture, (a)  Christ is the power of God . (1 Corinthians 1:24). Likewise, (...

The Most Opposite ~ Almighty God & perverse sinners

"Good and upright is the LORD, therefore will He teach sinners in the way." - Psalm 25:8 [KJV] Here are two characters the most opposite: a good and upright Lord—wicked and perverse sinners. Good and upright as the Lord is, He might justly damn sinners. But no, O condescending grace! He will not leave sinners to perish, in their ignorance and obstinacy: He will teach them. It is said of one, that after his conversion, he could scarcely mention the name of JESUS, without a tear. O had it not been for his redemption, no sinner would have had divine teaching! but all whom Christ has redeemed by his blood, the Spirit teaches by His power.  This is His office in the covenant of grace. This implies, that so ignorant are sinners of divine truths, that no teaching besides the Lord the Spirit, can instruct and make them wise unto salvation. Come sinner, come down from the altitudes of thy fancied wisdom and boasted knowledge, and learn this humbling truth to-night. If th...

God Gives Us Victory in Our LORD JESUS!

"The strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ." -I Corinthians 15:56, 57 [KJV] Pause, my soul, over this solemn, but yet sweet verse. "The strength of sin is the law."  Doth sin derive strength from the law? Yes, for the motions of sin, which is in our members, gather strength from the precepts in God's holy law, just as pent-up waters, that are increasing from various sources, will swell and rage the more because they are restrained. And this is what the apostle means, when he saith, "Sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence."  For the mass of indwelling corruption is stirred up, and excited into action by the law. The Lord, in rich mercy, teaching us by this very process; that so totally corrupt is our nature, that we do not know the whole workings of sin, until, by the holiness of His commandment, we are led to see, and feel a ...

Delivered Unto Death for JESUS' Sake

"But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead."   -II Corinthians 1:9 [KJV] What is life naturally and what is death naturally? Is not that life in which there is breath, energy, movement, activity? And what is death but the utter cessation of all this moving activity and vital energy? To die is to lose life, and by losing life to lose all the movements of life. Thus, when the Lord takes, as it were, out of our heart and hands everything in which we once had life, in which we lived and moved and seemed to have our earthly, natural, and enjoyed being, and condemns it by His holy word, so as to record therein, and in our conscience as an echo to His voice, a continual sentence of death against it, He delivers us over unto death.  And you will observe that none but the living family of God are so delivered: "For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake ; "  ...
