God's Grace ~ Delivering His People to Everlasting Life

"I know that Thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living." -Job 30:23 [KJV] What sweet familiarity does grace make, between God and believing sinners! How freely can they speak to Him, upon that solemn event, death . In the exercise of faith, we think of it, without terror, and speak of it with delight. Why so? Because we have no sin, and are not sinners? No. But because we know Christ the Friend of sinners, who has taken away all our sins, conquered death for us, subdued the fear of death in us, brought life and immortality to us, and is ever before the throne pleading for us.  Yet we know, also, HE will bring us to death. O this is soul-comforting knowledge! What wilt Thou, my loving God, my precious Saviour, who bore my sins in Thine own body on the tree, bring me to death? Are the issues of life and death in Thy hand? Cannot death approach nor assault me, till Thou give him commission, and bring me to death?  I thank Thee, my dear ...

Oh, to Glorify the LORD JESUS Christ!

"The God of our fathers hath glorified His Son Jesus." -Acts 3:13 [KJV] See, my soul, how every part and portion of scripture is directed to this one subject— to glorify the Lord Jesus . What is the very design of redemption but to glorify the Lord Jesus? What hath God constituted a church for, but to glorify the Lord Jesus? To what do all the precepts, promises, ordinances, sacrifices under the law, and institutions under the gospel, minister, but to this one end— to glorify the Lord Jesus?   Talk they of promises? Why, all the promises of God are "in Christ Jesus, yea and amen, to the glory of God the Father by us." Talk they of the law? "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Talk they of commandments? "This is the commandment, that ye believe in the name of the only begotten Son of God; and that believing, ye might have life through His name. " And how hath the God of our fathers glorified ...

Once Dead yet now Having New Life in JESUS "The LORD our Righteousness"

"He that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." -John 11:25 [KJV] How can any one who is dead believe? He can, or our Lord would not have said so. I will shew you how. He is a living man as quickened into life by the power of the Spirit of God, and yet he is dead. This is the deep mystery, that though he is dead in law, dead in conscience, dead in helplessness, yet God the Holy Ghost has breathed into him and deposited in him a seed of living faith.  By this faith he cries, by this faith he sighs, and by this faith he hungers and thirsts after righteousness; yea, more, by this faith he looks unto and believes in the Son of God. He scarcely knows that he has faith. His faith is so weak and so small in his own estimation, that he dare not say he has faith; and yet he has all the fruits of faith, all the marks of faith, and all the evidences of faith. Take as a parallel case Jonah in the whale's belly. Had he faith or had he not faith? How lo...
