WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST?

"What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?" -Matt hew 22:42-45 [KJV]   After the Pharisees and Sadducees had peppered and bombarded the Lord Jesus with many needless questions, then the Lord asked them the all important question of questions, 'What think ye of Christ?' It concerns each of us to seriously ask ourselves this heart-searching question. What are my thoughts about the Lord Jesus Christ? It is the great test of our spiritual state before God. Do I think of Him at all? Is He in any of my thoughts? To the unbeliever, and the atheist the Lord Jesus is nothing (Psa. 53:1). To the self-righteous legalist, He is just rules and regulations. “ The doctrine of free and sovereign grace is rather an encouragement to awakened and brokenhearted sinners than otherwise. If you are most unworthy of mercy and destitute of every plea, should you not be glad to hear that the Lord does not expect worthiness in those whom He saves; but that He Himself has provided the only plea by which He will accept us and a plea which cannot be overruled – the righteousness and mediation of His well-beloved Son ? Errors gain ground and champions for the truth are but few in number when compared to the other hosts. Remember, God’s decrees shall not always be called horrible, nor an everlasting righteousness be called imputed nonsense. Vindictive justice shall avenge the quarrel of sovereign mercy as soon as old time shall bring in " T he D ay of the LORD’s vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion" (Isaiah 34:8). Let us contend for God’s truth, and leave our testimonies on record that others, who come after us, may tread in our steps and not leave volumes of free-agency, human merit, and a pack of nonsense behind us. We may be sure they will bring enough of this trash in their hearts when they come into the world, therefore we need not a
